City-Wide Open Studios, a tradition of artists opening their studios up to the public, will once again take place during the month of October, thanks to the goodwill of local creatives and their continuing grassroots cooperation. The month-long, region-wide visual arts festival kicked off Oct 1 with an opening reception for a survey exhibition which includes a single work by most of the participating artists. Called “Glorious Index,” this survey exhibition, which includes West Haven artists Gayle Bessenoff, Bill Enck, David Katz, and others, is on view at the Institute Library, located at 847 Chapel Street in New Haven through early December.
West Haven Open Studios takes place Oct. 11-12. Visitors will have a chance to meet 16 artists, designers, and craftspeople in their studios, most of whom are only open to the public during this event. All are welcome to talk to the artists about their work, purchase artwork, see work in progress, and learn about the creative process. All ages can participate and be introduced to a variety of art forms and media, including painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, woodworking, jewelry making, textiles, music, and more. Consider buying a piece of artwork for you or someone you love.
