The West Haven Mite A hockey team hosted a tough Wonderland Mite A1 team. The Westies had a lot of offense with goals from JP Beebe, Maddy Bruder, Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei, Austin Picard and Jack Weiss. Ava Healy, Quinn Uscilla, Jeinei and Picard assisted on the scoring, and Landon Alling played hard on both ends of the ice. Finn McLaughlin was clutch in goal.
The Westies continued their scoring, traveling to Northford Ice Pavilion against Greater New Haven Mite A. Gagliardi contributed multiple goals and Alling, Bruder, Jenei, and Picard also got on the scoreboard. Uscilla and Alling had multiple assists and Weiss had an assist and multiple shots on goal.
Beebe was clutch on both ends of the ice. Healy made a great defensive showing in front of Mclaughlin, who was on fire in goal.
West Haven kicked off this weekend at home facing the New Canaan Winter Club A team. Jenei and Picard handled the scoring for the Westies.
McLaughlin faced a lot of shots in net. Alling, Gagliardi and Uscilla played hard on both ends. Weiss, Bruder, Beebe, and Healy had great backchecking.
The Westies finished the weekend playing a strong Mid Fairfield Stars 2015 team. McLaughlin had another busy game in net and Beebe led the scoring for West Haven.
Alling, Gagliardi, Jenei, Picard, Uscilla and Weiss had multiple shots on goal, and Bruder and Healy played tough on defense.
West Haven visited a challenging New Canaan A team. The Westies put up a strong fight with multiple shots on net by Alling, Gagliardi, Jenei, Uscilla and Weiss with Beebe, Picard and Bruder sneaking the puck by New Canaan’s goalie. Healy played solid defense in front of McLaughlin, who was in the net for the Westies.
The Westies continued their schedule against the Wonderland A team. Healy was in goal for West Haven and proved a tough challenge for Wonderland, making many impressive saves between the posts. Weiss also made a solid showing for West Haven.
The Westies then played host to the Wonderland A1 team. Helping the Mite A team on offense and putting the puck in the net were Weiss, Gagliardi, Uscilla, and Beebe. Alling, Jenei, Picard and Healy did a good job stopping multiple attacks in front of McLaughlin in goal.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team’s hot steak continued as the entire roster provided key contributions over the weekend.
The Westies hosted the Shelton Riverhawks 8U B at Bennett Rink. In front of Darcy Jacob in net, the Westies clicked on all cylinders. Chase Liston, Dean Azano, Blake Bova, Parker Vitelli, and Luke Salkins each scored multiple goals.
The Westies then traveled to the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport to take on the Wonderland Wizards Blue. In what was a tight game, Bova stepped up in net and made clutch save after clutch save, including an impressive glove save to shut down a breakaway.
Offensively, the Westies were led by Azano and Salkins, who each scored multiple goals. Callen Tagliatela and Liston also contributed goals. Defensively, Maddie Demayo played a strong game and contributed multiple shots on net.
West Haven Mite B took on Mid Fairfield White at Bennett Rink. In a closely played game, Rylan Jacob made many crucial saves in net.
Maddie Demayo played strong defense in front of Jacob, helping turn away the Mid Fairfield attack throughout the game. Salkins, Bova, Liston, and Azano each contributed goals for the Westies.
West Haven Mite B traveled to South Norwalk to take on Mid Fairfield Black on Sunday. In a rematch of a close game from earlier in the season, the Westies played one of their strongest games of the year.
Rylan Jacob again proved to be too tough for the Mid Fairfield offense, stopping shots the entire game. Vitelli, Bova, Liston, Azano, and Salkins each found the back of the net multiple times. Tagliatela and Darcy Jacob played with great energy on both ends of the ice, helping set up several Westie goals.
The West Haven Mite C Blue team traveled to Norwich to take on Southeastern Mite C. Kaden Kendall was in goal and made many saves during the matchup.
Multiple shots on goal were made by Joseph Gaul, Connor Gaul, Chloe Kendall and Mena Paredes. Zander Cianciullo also had a shot on net, and excellent defense was played by Marco Camera and Nico Camera.
West Haven Mite C Blue traveled to South Windsor to take on South Windsor Mite C on Sunday. In net for the Blue Devils was Kaden Kendall, who made several outstanding saves during the matchup.
Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes, while Joseph Gaul recorded an assist. Multiple shots on net were made by Chloe Kendall, Paredes, Connor Gaul and Joseph Gaul, with Zander Cianciullo also contributing a shot on goal.
Excellent defense was played by Marco Camera, Nico Camera and Paredes.
West Haven hosted Wallingford Mite C at Bennett Rink. Kaden Kendall was in net for the Blue Devils, making many amazing saves during the matchup. Multiple goals were scored by Paredes, with additional goals scored by Chloe Kendall, Connor Gaul and Joseph Gaul.
Cianciullo also had shots on net and great defense was displayed by Marco Camera.
The West Haven 18U Midget hockey team split four games in Marlborough, Massachusetts. After dropping the first two games, the Westies rallied back to take the final two contests.
In the opener, West Haven fell 4-1, with Yousaf Ullah scoring the only goal. West Haven then fell 2-1 in the second contest as Haygen Axelrod tallied the lone West Haven goal off an assist from Jayden Spreyer.
West Haven won the third game against Buffalo by a score of 5-1. Mike Madera led the Westies with two goals, Tyler Bernardi played well offensively, and the defense of Axelrod, Jason Alling, Will Delvecchio, T.J. Levenduski, and Connor Bunnell was solid throughout.
Cam Delvecchio gave the Westies a 1-0 lead off an assist from Dante Hardt, Will Delvecchio made it 2-0 1:48 into the second, before Madera gave West Haven a 3-1 lead off assists from Ullah and Spreyer.
Hardt gave West Haven some cushion off an assist from Alling with 9:19 to go, and Madera iced the contest off assists from Ullah and Cody Rocchio with 3:11 remaining.
The Westies closed the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Buffalo as Madera scored twice, and Spreyer had a goal and an assist.
Madera started the scoring 2:50 into the game, Bunnell made it 2-0, and Madera scored off an assist from Spreyer with 2:44 left in the first for a 3-0 advantage. Owen Zaharawicz ended West Haven’s first period scoring for a 4-0 advantage.
Leading 4-1, Ullah and Spreyer scored 23 seconds apart late in the second for a 6-1 lead. Cam Delvecchio and Eli Gregory capped the scoring in the final period.
Jayson Gherlone and Javed Ullah played well in all four games for the Westies.
West Haven won a pair of games this weekend, topping the Riverhawks and Hamden.
The Westies opened the weekend with a 10-1 victory over the Riverhawks. Spreyer led the way with three goals, Cam Delvecchio scored twice, and Gregory and Madera each finished with a goal and an assist.
Madera gave the Westies a 1-0 lead with an unassisted tally with 9:19 remaining in the first period, and Spreyer scored off assists from Will Delvecchio and Levenduski for a 2-0 advantage after one.
The Westies scored four times in each of the final two periods to pull away. Hardt, Cam Delvecchio, Rocchio and Spreyer all scored in the second, with Yousaf Ullah, Gregory, Zaharawicz and Axelrod picking up assists.
Spreyer, Gregory, and Cam Delvecchio scored in the third, with Madera and Will Delvecchio picking up assists in the period.
West Haven capped the weekend with a 6-2 victory at Hamden. Ullah, Spreyer, and Alling scored in the first period, Zack Fonda scored in the second, and Cam Delvecchio and Rocchio scored in the third.
Javed Ullah and Gherlone played well in goal all weekend for the Westies.
West Haven ended its half season with a 5-5 tie against Hamden. Trailing 1-0, West Haven evened the game at one when Madera scored off an assist from Axelrod with eight minutes left in the first period.
Cam Delvecchio gave the Westies a 2-1 lead off assists from Gregory and Spreyer, before Gregory scored 1:10 later off an assist from Spreyer for a 3-1 advantage.
With the game even at three in the second period, Yousaf Ullah scored for a 4-3 lead. Alling scored the final West Haven goal off an assist from Axelrod.
