The West Haven Mite A hockey team had a tough battle on the ice against the Wonderland 8U A team. Goaltender Finn McLaughlin made a number of spectacular saves in net, with Maddy Bruder playing strong defense in front of him.
Gabriella Jenei, Jack Weiss and Landon Alling put the Westies on the scoreboard. Austin Picard and JP Beebe assisted on the goals. Quinn Uscilla, Ava Healy and Brayden Gagliardi had a number of shots on goal.
West Haven headed into the weekend against a tough Mid Fairfield team. West Haven got on the board with multiple goals by Alling, Beebe, and Picard.
Gagliardi, Jenei, Uscilla, and Weiss had shots on goal. McLaughlin had a strong showing in net, with great defense from Bruder and Healy in front of him.
On Sunday, the Westies put on a showcase against the Watertown 8U White team. Every player contributed.
Alling, Gagliardi, Jenei, Picard, Uscilla and Weiss had multiple goals, and Bruder also got on the scoreboard. Healy was a presence in goal.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team played host to Mid Fairfield Black at Bennett Rink. The first ten minutes of the game were scoreless, with Maddie Demayo making multiple clutch saves in net.
Led by a hat trick from Blake Bova, the West Haven offense clicked on all cylinders. Chase Liston, Luke Salkins, and Parker Vitelli each scored multiple goals, while Dean Azano tallied an additional goal. Darcy Jacob contributed strong play on both ends of the ice in the Mite B triumph.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team played host to the Shoreline Sharks on Saturday. Liston played a strong game in net, Bova kicked off the scoring with an impressive goal between two defenders, and Azano added multiple goals, including a breakaway score. Salkins tallied an additional goal late with an impressive top-corner wrist shot.
West Haven traveled to East Haven on Sunday to take on the Yellow Jackets. In what was a spirited effort, Bova and Salkins led the way offensively.
Callen Tagliatela played a strong game on both ends of the ice, adding multiple shots on net and several strong defensive plays. Liston again made numerous big saves in net.
The West Haven Mite C Blue team had its first home game of the year. Joseph Gaul was in net for the Blue Devils and made many excellent saves during the matchup.
Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes and Chloe Kendall, with another goal by Connor Gaul. Multiple shots on net were made by Paredes, Kendall and Gaul, and Nico Camera also contributed a shot on net.
On Sunday, both Mite C teams joined forces and played in the Bridgeport Islanders Mite Jamboree at Total Mortgage Arena.
Kaden Kendall was in net for all four games, making many awesome saves during each 12-minute matchup.
In the first game against Mid-Fairfield Mite B, Sebastian Malangone had a goal and an additional shot on net. In the second game against Wonderland Mite B, Paredes scored a goal, with shots on net also from Isabella Rasile, Gaul, Mila Malangone and Marco Camera.
In the third game vs Mid-Fairfield Mite C, Malangone and Gaul each recorded shots on net. In the final game against Wonderland Mite B, Paredes recorded multiple goals with another shot on goal from Malangone.
The West Haven U 18 Midget team won a pair of contests this weekend. West Haven opened with a 4-1 victory over Wonderland and capped the weekend with a 9-2 win at Western Massachusetts.
Against Wonderland, West Haven took control of the contest with four second period goals. Cam Delvecchio got the Westies on the board off assists from Dante Hardt and Eli Gregory, before Gregory increased the lead to 2-0 off assists from Will Delvecchio and JJ Alling.
Zack Fonda helped West Haven to a 3-0 lead off assists from Alling and Mike Madera, before Cam Delvecchio’s second goal, off assists from Hardt and Alling, gave West Haven a 4-0 advantage.
West Haven closed the weekend with the win in Massachusetts. The Westies struck quickly with a 6-1 second period lead and never looked back. Hardt, Cam Delvecchio and Gregory combined for the first six goals.
West Haven remained undefeated with a pair of victories this weekend. The Westies opened with a 3-1 win over Wonderland, before closing the two days with a 9-4 victory over Greater New Haven.
West Haven trailed Wonderland 1-0 starting the third period, but Madera scored with 13:36 remaining off assists from Jayden Spreyer and T.J. Levenduski to even the game at one. The game remained knotted until Spreyer scored off assists from Fonda and Madera with 3:35 to go.
Connor Bunnell added an empty net goal with 1:07 left for the 3-1 final. Javed Ullah was stellar in goal in the win for West Haven.
Th Westies again trailed in the second contest of the weekend, spotting Greater New Haven a 2-0 lead. West Haven rebounded in impressive fashion as Gregory finished with a hat trick, and Madera and Spreyer each scored twice.
Trailing by two, West Haven scored three times in a span of 1:14 to take the lead. Gregory cut the deficit in half off assists from Will Delvecchio and Cam Delvecchio, Cam Delvecchio scored the equalizer, and Spreyer gave West Haven a 3-2 lead off assists from Yousaf Ullah and Bunnell.
With the game even at three, Madera put the Westies on top for good off an assist from Haygen Axelrod with 2:10 left in the second.
Gregory scored off assists from Spreyer and Cam Delvecchio for a 5-3 lead, before Madera, Spreyer and Gregory capped the scoring outburst in the third.
