Last Sunday, West Haven citizens lead by Planning and Zoning Commissioner Steven R. Mullins gathered on the West Haven Green to tie blue ribbons around trees and light poles to show support for the West Haven Police.
“Police in West Haven put their lives on the line to protect our residents everyday! They need to know that they’re appreciated by those they protect, especially during these uncertain times.” Mullins said.
The event was an impromptu community activity with only a couple of days notice. Citizens donated ribbons, ladders and other supplies.
Mullins got the idea from West Haven businesswoman Carolyn Sires, owner of Physician’s Physical Therapy on Campbell Avenue. Sires, a Branford resident is a Branford elected official, serving on the town’s Representative Town Meeting. She organized a Back the Blue Ribbon tribute on the Branford Green, where it was well received by police, residents and First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove.
Mullins brought the program to West Haven within a week of learning about it and hopes to spread the idea to other cities and towns throughout Connecticut.
Among the citizens participating were State Rep. Charles Ferrero (R-117), and Board of Education member Patricia Libero.
