Ora Mason’s Branch library unveiled a new mural by artist Miguel Estrada on August 30, at its 260 Benham Hill Road location. The mural was created to highlight the presence of the mid-century modern structure built in 1967, by promoting a renewed awareness of the new ways librarians engage with their communities.
“It was not unusual for someone new to the area to enter the library thinking it was the Fire Department next door. The two buildings share similar architectural styles”, said Branch Manager, Maria Tonelli.
Miguel Estrada, better known as “Marsh”, is passionate about his artwork. His goal is to “make people happy”. The word “LOVE” is spread across all of his pieces. “I hope when people see the word LOVE spread across all of my paintings, they can’t help but smile”, says the artist.
The mural was done thanks to the city of West Haven’s ARPA grant with ARTSWEST. “We are so very pleased with Miguel’s work. It is a unique piece of art and will be enjoyed by West Haven residents as they stop in and drive through West Shore. We thank the city and ARTSWEST for the opportunity to apply for a grant for the art and for the ease of the grant process”, said Library Director, Colleen Baillie.

I’m looking forward to see his art work. Hopefully. I’ll be there in a week or two.
