Organizers looking to erect a Peace Officers Memorial are asking the public for financial help.
On Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15, Mayor Dorinda A. Borer, Police Chief Joseph Perno, and Deputy Police Chief Joseph Romano, joined members of the West Haven Police Department Memorial Monument Committee for a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the future site of the monument, honoring the men and women of the West Haven Police Department.
“This monument will serve as a lasting tribute to the generations of officers that have dedicate themselves to protecting and serving the citizens of West Haven,” said Committee founder and Chairman Steven R. Mullins. “The committee hopes that the monument will be installed and unveiled later in autumn. Long after we are gone, this monument will serve as a reminder of their service, sacrifice and commitment to our residents. We are inviting the community to financially assist us in making this lasting tribute a reality,” he said.
Several generous donations have been made by members of the West Haven Police Retirement Association. The Committee is now encouraging members of the greater West Haven community to join in supporting this project.
Those wishing to contribute may do so by using the accompanying QR code. The QR code lists retired Lieutenant and Association President John Jarvie in connection with this fundraising effort.
Other Committee members include retired Lt. Paul Raucci, retired City Public Works and Human Resources Commissioner Beth Sabo, and city residents Raymond Gooley and Andy Weinstein.
