The West Haven Peewee A travel hockey team moved to 16-7-3 with a hard fought 4-4 tie against Greater New Haven Sunday morning at the Edward L. Bennett Rink in West Haven.
Trailing by a pair of goals, the Westies rallied to pull out the tie. Defenseman Dave Brown led the way with two goals and an assist.
Brown gave the Westies a 1-0 lead just 3 minutes, 12 seconds into the game off an assist from Bruno Martone. Greater New Haven scored the next three goals to lead by two goals after one period, before the West Haven power play got the team back on track.
Michael Madera fed Mickey Dowd in front and Dowd quickly snapped home Madera’s pass to get West Haven within a goal with 7:05 left in the middle period. Just 1:20 later, Kyle Droney took a pass from Jayden Spreyer and evened the game, with Colin Deane also picking up an assist on the power play goal.
After Greater New Haven took a 4-3 lead and West Haven goaltender Brendan Smith kept the game within striking distance, Smith nudged a pass to Brown who went the length of the ice for the equalizer with 7:47 remaining in the game.
The Westies put on a great amount of pressure in the closing moments, but could not get the go-ahead goal.
