The Sandy Point Neighborhood Association conducted its fall cleanup of the Sandy Point Park, parking lot and shore as part of its commitment to upgrading area. The efforts have been successful, as trash and debris were more manageable, with bulk items like tires and cushions less frequently carted off. Still, 40 bags of trash that had been scattered along the beach. Meanwhile, the Audubon Society of Connecticut reports that the bird nesting areas are thriving. This year, there were 10 American Oystercatcher chicks at Sandy Point alone — in past years, they had seen no more than nine total for the entire state.
