For city students, the anticipation and fun of summer vacation is fast becoming the reality that all good things must come to an end. After a 10-week hiatus, the 2023-2024 school year is about to begin, and will begin with a full schedule of classes.
West Haven Public Schools 2023-2024 school year will begin on Monday, Aug. 28, with a full day of classes for all students.
School officials noted this week that free breakfast and lunch is available to all students under the the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
Bus service starts (see page 15) on the first day of school. The schedule printed in this issue may have some alterations by opening day, according to officials. Look on www.whschools.org or all the Winkle Bus representative (203) 937-4331 with any questions regarding bus routes. Guidelines for bus service based on School Board Policy #3541 (see policy on www.whschools.org).
Registration has been ongoing during the summer for new families, and will continue until and after the new year begins.
All students new to the West Haven School District should be formally registered at their incoming school. Parents and guardians are asked to call (203) 937-4300 for information as to school assignments by home address.
The district’s residency policy requires that all students, without exception, produce bona fide proof that they live in West Haven. As evidence of residency, the parent or legal guardian of each student must provide the school building administrator with the following most recent documents: Mortgage statement or lease provision, with landlord name and phone number; AND a current utility bill (phone, cell, cable, UI, gas, water).
Parents must accompany all new registrants who are under 18 years of age. They are also required to present education and health records obtained from the school that was previously attended.
