The Pop Warner football season is five weeks old, and the West Haven Seahawks are battling through the tough Southern Connecticut conference. The 8U football team got back on track after losing its first game a week ago to beat the New Haven Steelers, 19-13, and improve to 4-1.
The 10U#1 team (4-1) topped the Milford Eagles (3-2), 27-13 in a hard-fought contest to remain a top of their division. The offense was led by quarterback Kahil Tomlinson and running back Jackson Gabrielle. Justin Frias and David Gaskins played well on defense for the Hawks.
The 10U#2 team beat the Derby Red Raiders, 33-0, to improve to 3-2 on the season. Muyakanwi Ngoh and Nehemiah Clayton led an explosive offense. Anthony Gagliardi ran the ball well for the Seahawk win.
The 11U Seahawks stayed unbeaten and improved their record to 5-0 with a 40-0 over the Easton-Redding Eagles. Quarterback Joe Singletary passed for three scores and ran for one in the win. Jay Bellamy, Mighty Jackson and Jacari Harris all had touchdown receptions. Trayvon Jaynes and Jermaine Gibbs added running TDs. Mason Booker and Tremar Smith both kicked extra points, worth two points in Pop Warner. The defense recorded a shutout with Pop Raines, Brody Coe, Josh Jackson, Celeb Sumpter, Donovan Williams and Scott Stallings leading the way.
The Seahawk 13U team dropped to 2-3 with a 32-0 loss against the Hartford Hurricanes. Caden Stanley played well on both sides of the ball for the Seahawks.
The two flag football teams (5/6) turned in great games on Sunday against Stratford and Derby. Desmond Lyman Jr and Jayceon White scored touchdowns and Josh Jordon Jr. played well on defense with 12 flags.
