The West Haven Seahawks 8U (7 & 8) team improved to 2-0 on the season with a dominating 34-0 win over the Stratford Redskins. Running backs Tristan Crawford and Majesty Whitaker accounted for all of the Seahawks offensive points including a 68 yard pass from Whitaker to Crawford.
West Haven Seahawk Joe Lugo races to the end zone and beats Stratford opponents for a score last weekend. The Seahawks’ squads had a mixed weekend in the second date on the schedule. Lugo’s team, however, topped the Stratford Redskins and pushed its record to 2-0 in the early season.
The defense was physical and stingy led by Chase Stanley who had an 89-yard interception. Brody Coe and Kahill Tomilson both had 5 tackles in the win. The flag teams (5 & 6) had another exciting week of football with a lot of scoring. The blue team hosted Stratford and the green team traveled to play Ansonia. Leading the Blue team was Peyton Roach with two long scores and Aiden Dowdye adding another. Cameron Davis was a flag hawk with six tackles, two for losses. The green flag football team played well and was led by Jackson Gabrielo, Keith Moore and Aaron Sullo.
The 10U team also improved to 2-0 with a thrilling 20-19 win over Stratford. Quarterback mason Wright connected on two touchdown passes. The Seahawks entered the fourth quarter with what seemed like a comfortable 20-6 lead, but the Redskins would not quit and scored twice in the final quarter. Wright hit JJ Lugo and Caden Stanley for touchdowns. TJ Stevenson also had a rushing score. Azriel Pizarro and Arthur Rossi led the defense for the Seahawks.
The 12U (11 & 12) Seahawks (1-1) ran into a very tough and talented Stratford Redskin team and fell, 25-0. The defense was led by Delaney Fludd, Aedan Coe, and Ethan Holy.
The 14U team (1-1) led Stratford 7-0 at the half, but the Redskins came back for an inspired second half of football scoring 24 unanswered points and beat the Seahawks, 24-7. Damari Barker scored the lone Seahawk touchdown in the second quarter with a 33 yard run. Xavier Fernandez played well on defense.
The Seahawks will be home again this Saturday with flag football at noon and the 8U team at 1 vs Ansonia, 10U at 3 vs Derby, 12U at 5 vs Stratford 2, and 14U vs NY at 7 under the lights. For more information, scores and standings, please visit www.westhavenseahawk.com.
