The West Haven Seahawks are bringing another National Championship back home to West Haven.
The Seahawks – who have four competitive cheerleading squads, ranging from 5-years old up to 13-years old, recently sent all four of their teams to Orlando, FL to compete for a National Championship title.
The Tiny Mites, West Haven’s youngest cheer team consisting of 21 girls between the ages of 5 and 7, came out on top. These athletes finished out their 2024 season undefeated as they are the current Southern Connecticut, State, New England Regional, and Pop Warner National Champions.
Scoring an impressive 95.27 in Orlando, the Tiny Mites became not only the highest scoring team of the day at Nationals, but also the top scoring team representing the New England Region. Out of 551 teams from all over the country competing for a National Title this year, the West Haven Tiny Mites had the fifth highest score of the entire week.
West Haven’s Mitey Mite squad is made up of 22 girls, ages 8 and 9. This group of athletes were the 2023 New England Regional Champions, and they were determined to come back this season strong. The Mitey Mites placed second at the Southern Connecticut competition and third at the Connecticut State competition. At New England Regionals, they earned fifth place and qualified to represent West Haven at the Nationals, where they finished seventh in the Nation.
The Seahawk Junior Peewee cheer team, which includes 23 girls, ages 10 and 11, earned first place in its division at both the Southern Connecticut and Connecticut State Competition. At the New England Regionals, the team placed fifth, and for a third year in a row, qualified for a bid to the National Championship where they finished ninth in the Nation.
The Junior Varsity squad includes 21 athletes, all aged 12 and 13. Many of these girls have been cheering together since they were five, but this was their first season going level 2. The team placed first at both the Southern Connecticut and Connecticut State competitions, and third at Regionals, which secured a qualifying bid to Nationals. In Orlando, the team put on an impressive show and earned a top 10 finish.
Eight of the girls will move onto high school next year.
