The West Haven Seahawks Peewee and Junior Varsity teams both won Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Conference championships this past weekend and now will advance to the new England Pop Warner Regional playoffs.
The Peewee team (9-1) beat the Milford Elks by a score of 20-0. After a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks scored on a 1-yard run by fullback Trysten Dos. The touchdown was set up when running back Jahzire Massey connected with receiver Javar Smith on a 37-yard pass bringing the ball to the one-yard line.
Carson Hill added a 54-yard touchdown run. Massey closed out the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run. A physical defense was led by Trevor Tomkins, Connor Holy, Gavin Kanlong, Tyrel Mosley, Cayden Drost and Imar Robinson. Carson Hill and Javar Smith had interceptions for the Hawks.
The Peewee team will host the Rhode Island Champion, Coventry Rams, on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park in West Haven. Kickoff will be at noon. The winner will advance to the regional championship games.
The Junior Varsity team (9-1) beat the Stratford Redskins, 35-0. Running backs Konye Taylor and Pearson Hill both had two rushing touchdowns. Tymaine Smith added a score.
The backs were feasting on big holes all day thanks to the blocking of the offensive line led by Khani Wright, Nate Osborne, Justin Teodosio, Nick Gerbase, and Xander eagles.
The defense was led by Jo-Jo Winder, Maxwell Warren, Donte Salvatore. Hunter Messina had a key interception near the goal line to stop a Stratford drive early in the game.
The Junior Varsity team will play the Rhode Island Champion, East Elmwood, on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park in West Haven at 2. The winner will advance to the regional final
