The West Haven Junior Varsity football team (9-1) has advanced to the New England final on Friday with a hard-fought win over the West Elmwood Intruders (RI) by a score 38-24.
The Seahawks started strong with Pearson Hill scoring two first half touchdowns to give the ‘Hawks a 15-0 halftime lead. The third quarter saw both teams make big plays on offense that turned into a scoring shootout.
Pearson Hill had two interceptions in the fourth quarter for scores that sealed the victory and sent the team to the regional championship game.
The offensive line was instrumental in the victory and included Hunter Messina, Nate Osborne, Khani Wright, and Preston Denno. The defensive effort was led by Jo-Jo Winder and Donovan Davis.
The Peewee Seahawk team (8-2) had their season come to an end after losing to a very talented Coventry Ram (RI) team, 31-0. Jayden Roby, Trysten Dos, Gavin Kanlong and Carson Hill played well.
The Seahawks Junior Pewee and Junior Varsity cheerleading squads qualified and competed in the New England Regional Cheerleading Competitions in Springfield this past weekend against very tough competition. Both teams put on flawless routines but did not place to advance to the Pop Warner National Championships. The Junior Varsity team finished 3rd in New England. The top two squads advance.
The Seahawk Junior Varsity football team will play the Revere Jr. Patriots (MA) for the regional championship on Friday at 12:30. The game will be played at Foley Field in Worcester, MA. The winner will represent New England at the national football championships at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex the week of Dec. 2.
