The Ray Tellier Midget Football League (West Haven Seahawks) opened its 52nd season of play this past weekend at Ken Strong Stadium located on the campus of West Haven High School under warm sunny skies.
The Seahawks Peewee team (1-0) blanked their neighbors, the Milford Eagles, 33-0. Running back Avian Evans led the offensive attack with three scores. Trysten Dos and Javar Smith each scored a touchdown. Nysir Harris converted an extra point and quarterback Jaylen Glover played well. Dos, Smith and Harris also played well on defense.
The Junior Peewee team (1-0) topped the Milford Eagles, 32-0, on Saturday night under the lights. Quarterback Nick Conlan orchestrated the offense passing for two scores and running for another. Anthony Dorsi, Kieandre Lyman, Brian Tillman and Joey Copela all scored for the Seahawks. Aedan Coe and Ethan Holy anchored a physical and stingy defense.
The flag football team (5 and 6 year olds) traveled to Seymour to take on the tigers. The little Seahawks had great success on offense and defense and playing well were Jaden Spell, Kahlil Tomlinson, Chace Stanley and Kaden LaFountain. The Mighty Mite team (7-9 year olds) beat the Milford Eagles, 19-,0 in their opener. Trisitan Crawford, Azriel Pizarro and Jorrae Dupree all scored rushing touchdowns for the mites. TJ Stevenson, Darryl Small, Arthur Rossi, and Yusef Turner played great on defense.
The Junior Varsity team (0-1) lost a heartbreaker to the Milford Eagles, 7-6. After three scoreless quarters, running back Bernett Scott scored with about five minutes left in the game. Scott had over 100 yards running on the day. Milford marched down the field and scored and added the conversion with under 1-minute remaining. The Hawks’ defense was led by Donovan Davis, Robert Torres and Connor Holy with 10 tackles.
The Unlimited Division team (0-1) lost to the Newington Knights, 40-14. Jahzire Massey led the offense with over 100 yards and two scores. Matteo Petruzziello and Christian Lewis also played well. The Seahawks marched into the red zone (inside the 20 yard line) three times and were turned away by a good Newington defense.
