The West Haven Seahawks began the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Conference playoffs this past weekend and will send three teams to the Championship games to be held at West Haven’s Veterans Memorial Park this weekend.
The Mighty Mite Team (ranked 4) upset the previously undefeated MT Hope Cowboys (top seed) from Providence, RI., with a come-from-behind 25-18 win. Tristan Crawford accounted for two rushing touchdowns including the winning score. Quarterback Mason Wright connected with Colin Murray late in the game to tie the score. Audrey Mack, TJ Stevenson, Azriel Pizarro and Jorrae Dupree led a good tackling and big play defense. The Mighty Mite team will play Waterbury (No. 2) on Saturday at Veterans Field in a 10:30 kick-off—for the conference championship.
The Junior Peewee team (top seed) ran over the Manchester Sentinels (No. 4), 38-6. Aedan Coe rushed for a touchdown and extra point and had a receiving scoring pass from Quarterback Nick Conlon. Bryan Tillman added two rushing touchdowns and Ethan Holy and Keandre Lymon each added one in the Seahawk win. Anthony Dorsi, Joey Copela and Caden Stanley, who recovered a fumble to stop a drive, played well on defense.
The Junior Peewee team will play the Stratford Redskins (2) on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Veterans Field for the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship.
The Seahawk Peewee team (No. 3) beat the Stratford Redskins (No. 2) by a score of 28-2 to revenge an earlier regular season loss. Running backs Javar Smith and Nysir Harris led the offense attack—each scoring two touchdowns. Tristan Dos, Lindell Jaynes and Wydell Sims played well on defense to preserve the victory.
The Peewee Seahawks will play the West Elmwood Intruders (top seed) on Sunday morning at 9 at Veterans Field for the conference championship.
The Seahawk Junior Varsity team (No. 4) fell to the Milford Eagles (top seed) by a score 28-6 to conclude their impressive season. The Seahawk score came from a 65-yard kickoff return by Robert Torres. Connor Holy, Terrell Mosley, Sulton Issifou, and Donovan Davis played well on defense in a losing effort.
The winners of this weekend’s Southern Connecticut Championship games will advance to the regional playoffs.
The Seahawk Peewee and Junior Varsity cheerleaders will travel to the New England Pop Warner Championships this weekend in Lowell, MA. The top two teams in each division will qualify for the national championships in December.
