The West Haven Seahawks opened the 2021 season with games at the flag (5/6 years old), 8U and 10U levels. The 12U and 14U teams will open next weekend.
The Seahawks 10U team exploded offensively for an impressive 34-0 win over the New Haven Steelers. Running back Tristan Crawford accounted for two touchdowns and teammates Majesty Whitaker, Trayon Jaynes and Jaden Spell each scored once. The offensive line controlled the game opening big holes for the running backs and was led by Mason Booker, William Pastore, Jaden Potter and CJ Schlauder. The defense was stellar allowing very few yards. Excellent defensive efforts were turned in by Jacari Harris with 8 tackles for losses, Chase Stanley, Kaden Lafountain and Tremar Smith.
The 8U team lost to a veteran and talented Steelers team, 33-0, in opening day action. First-year running backs Jackson Gabriele and Andrew Cuzio ran the ball well for the Seahawks. The defense was led by Jackson Boynton and Kyhlan Crawford.
The Seahawk squads will all be at home at Veterans Field this Saturday vs. Stratford. Flag football begins at noon with 8U kicking off at 1 p.m., 10U at 3, 12U at 5 and 14U at 7.
