Although last weekend was washed out, West Haven Youth Soccer got in all its games the week before. The West Haven Federation of Teachers faced off against Nick’s Luncheonette in an exciting game. Nick’s Luncheonette took the win, 3-1. Chase Conte was outstanding in goal, making several impressive saves and showing no hesitation as he stepped up to stop scoring attempts. Yanni Bertrand played a strong defensive game, repeatedly clearing the ball and intercepting plays from the opposing team. His excellent ball control, agility, and determination were excellent. Kwabena Genfi consistently followed the play, delivered several impressive crosses, and demonstrated excellent communication with his teammates throughout the game.
The Wizzard Painting Blue Jays had a good game against Pinky’s Embroidery & More, with the two teams playing to a 5-5 draw. The boys all played and passed well. Nolan Williams worked extra hard to defend the goal and get the ball out to his teammates. There were beautiful assists from Gage Hemming and Caleb Horvath, with each also finding the back of the net. Lorenzo’s Ristorante Italiano Orange Tangerines battled hard and won, 3-2, against Top Hat Dance Academy. Anthony Gambardella played tough in the midfield and scored a goal. Preston Screen sealed the game with the winning penalty kick. Isaias Barrera Olivos and Tyler Franklin played standout defense.
Milano & Wanat fell, 2-1, to Frankie’s of West Haven. Leo Carrillo showed great anticipation on defense. William Marmelstein scored a beautiful goal. Adam Elaziz played with tremendous hustle.
It was the second game of the season and Physician Physical Therapy faced off against Elsie Encarnacion State Farm Insurance. Encarnacion State Farm Insurance scored the first goal, but Denzel Ortega of Physicians Physical Therapy scored to tie the game. The Elsie Encarnacion State Farm team scored again but Gabriele Rossi scored a hat trick to take the lead and Shavier Medley got the insurance goal. There was some great defensive stops by Michele Rossi. Physicians Physical Therapy won the game 5-2.
The First Congregational Church of West Haven played the University of New Haven to a 7-2 win. Playing as strikers, Ruaa Naas and Rylee Lanci combined for great ball placement and scoring opportunities. Mercedes Proano worked hard playing outside mid making, key passes during the game. The West Haven Police Local 895 Red Dragons played a hard-fought game against the Shoreline Wellness Center Team. Ace Hemming scored a hat trick, and Noah Flores had a key assist to Hemming to tie the game 4-4 with only minutes left. Cash Papa also had a great game at midfield.
Tye West Haven U14 boys travel team went 1-1 last weekend. On Saturday they hosted rivals Guilford, winning, 5-4. Roland Green scored, while Jaxon Cruz and Aaron Azana played well in goal. Ben Trenchard, Jacob Rader, and Collin Gibbons anchored the backline. Ryan Abekah netted the winning goal. On Sunday, the boys traveled to Milford, falling 3-0. Julio Guerra, Luca DeCrescenzo, and Juan Pinedo worked hard in the midfield in the loss.
The West Haven girls U10 Travel Team had its first win, beating Shelton, 6-2. Ayah Lamkhantar led the charge scoring four goals while Mille Azano scored once in her very first travel game. Savannah scored a goal in the final minutes of the game. Elizabeth started in goal and shut Shelton down in the first half, supported by her outstanding defenders Melody and Zayn.
