The West Haven Seahawks started the 2017 season with exciting opening day wins at New Haven on Saturday. The Junior Peewee team (1-0) battled to a 13-7 win over a very talented New Haven Steelers squad.
Nysir Harris and Avain Evans scored for the Seahawks. The Peewee team (1-0) overcame opening day jitters and turnovers for a 7-0 win over the peewee Steeler team. Trysten Dos score the lone Seahawk touchdown. Javer Smith ran the football well and Jayzine Massey played great solid defense.
The Junior Varsity team (1-0) outlasted New Haven 7-0 in a defensive battle. West Haven’s only score was a result of a fumble recovery in the end zone by Tymaine Smith. Maxwell Warren converted the extra point.
West Haven held New Haven out of the end zone on four consecutive plays inside the 5-yard line late in the game to hold on to the victory.
Camyran Winder, Bryson Robinson, Donovan Davis and Donte Salvatore all played swarming and physical defense.
The Junior Mighty Mites (7-9 year olds) is fundamental with no score kept. The team played in New Haven and did very well offensively and defensively. QB Tim Nixon, Jr. ran and passed the ball well.
Running back Kienndre Lymon ran for over 6o yards and scored a touchdown and Yusef Turner played good defense with key tackles for the junior hawks.
The Seahawks will at home this Saturday at Veterans Field on Bull Hill Lane. The flag football teams will begin at 9 and the day will end with the Junior Varsity team kicking off against Trumbull at 4. For more information, please visit www.westhavenseahawk.com.
