The West Haven Seahawks traveled to Milford this past weekend and came out poised to make a run for the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner playoffs.
The day started with the Seahawks Junior Peewee team (4-1) beating the Milford Eagles, 27-6. Quarterback Nick Conlan passed for one touchdown to Nysir Harris, and ran for another. Conlan also connected on three extra point conversions to Aiden Coe and Harris. Avian Evans also rushed for two touchdowns in the victory. A good tackling defense was led by Caleb Oakes, Qamari Newton and Ethan Blackwell.
The Peewee Seahawks (5-0) beat the previously undefeated Milford Elks (4-1), 25-0. Carson Hill and Jahzire Massey each accounted for two touchdowns. Devan Robinson had two quarterback sacks and Javar Smith and Cayden Drost each pulled down an interception to keep the high powered Milford offense at bay.
The Junior Midget team (5-0) also matched up against an unbeaten and very talented Milford Eagle squad (4-1) and squeaked by with a 13-11 win. After a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks’ Pearson Hill opened the scoring and Konye Taylor added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Milford came right back scoring and kicking the extra point for an 8-7 Milford Eagle lead at the half. Midway through the third quarter, the Eagles kicked a 31-yard field goal to increase the lead to 11-7. Early in the fourth quarter, running back Tymaine Smith raced 41 yards for a touchdown, making the score 13-11.
The defense battled the remainder of the game and the Hawk defense was led by Preston Denno, Donovan Davis, Bryson Robinson, Jo-Jo Winder and Amir Nakome.
The fundamental level Junior Mighty Mites hosted the New Britain Raiders in a great defensive matchup. Jey Scanlon led the offensive attack, and Caden Stanley and Darryl Small each played great defense and recorded sacks.
