The Spurs capped an unbeaten regular season by winning the Gene Dillon Tournament title with a 53-39 win over the third seeded Clippers on Sunday night at Mackrille School.
The Clippers came out firing as they raced to a 10-2 first quarter lead behind 5 points each from Henry Smith and Juan Dancy. The Spurs rallied back to captured a 13-10 lead as Wade Sheffield knocked down a three-pointer and Pearson Hill, Nick Doherty and Nick Hemmings all scored for the Spurs.
The Spurs second unit has been clutch all year and they took control of the game in the second quarter. Jordan Paulin went off for 10 points and Jared Butler added six as the Spurs raced to a 21 point halftime lead. Frankie Perez knocked down a three-pointer as well. Eshwar Balakumar scored for the Clippers.
The third quarter saw the Clippers cut into the lead as Dancy, Smith and Alex Potter combined for 11 points. The Spurs used key hoops in the fourth quarter from Hemmings, Sheffield, and Hill to capture their second championship in a row.
