The West Haven Swim Club is gearing up to start its spring season on Monday April 25. Registration is now open at https://www.westhavenswimclub.org/page/team-registration
The spring season is an eight-week-long session, taught in a clinic-type atmosphere open to children of all ages, and designed to teach children proficiency in the four competitive swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Swimmers are introduced to the basics of all four strokes and trained to improve skill and speed.
The program is for both children who have some experience in swimming through lessons and are considering the competitive fall season and veterans looking to refine technique. Practice runs Monday through Friday, with a minimum attendance requirement of three practices per week.
All new swimmers will be assigned a permanent practice time after tryouts on Monday April 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the West Haven High School Pool. Practices will run at 5:30 and 6:30 beginning Tuesday April 26. Returning swimmers will begin practice on April 26 at the same practice time they were in last season.
All swimmers are assigned practice times based on age and ability. New swimmers ages 8 and under are required to complete one lap unassisted to make the team. New swimmers, 9 and over, are required to complete two laps unassisted in order to make the team.
