Former WHHS teacher and tennis coach Barbara Amato was in town recently to unveil the “Amato Collection,” in honor of her husband, the late Anthony Amato. For more than 35 years, Amato, an English teacher, was head of the West Haven High School Theatre Workshop and produced many memorable plays and musicals at the Frank Albright Theatre as well as the main stage of the auditorium. Barbara, now spends a good part of the year in Florida, donated his large collection of plays and musicals to the West Haven Library. She invited former student-actor and GOP mayoral candidate Barry Cohen to the event. The Amato Collection has grown since first started about six years ago as part of the “Amato Fund,” and includes classic books and CDs that continue to expand. The collection is available to teachers and students to reserve. It is located on the main floor of the library and is both a tribute to one of West Haven’s legendary teachers and directors, and, a resource to for students of all ages.
