Historian's CornerThe hurricane of 1950 blew through Connecticut late in the season on Nov. 25. It damaged the steeple of the First Congregational Church, and toppled the bell from its moorings. The bell was undamaged, however, and soon a rebuilt steeple housed it to call worshippers to prayer.

Church reaches outVertical Church, Molloy Road, served 1200 families in the greater New Haven area. On Tuesday 400 families from Savin Rock, Washington, Pagels, Bailey, Carrigan, and Forest Schools; as well as the Head Start Program of the Community House were served a Thanksgiving basket including turkey and trimmings.
