Edith E. Mackrille School students have not only been working hard on their academics, but also on being good citizens. Every month the school embraces a theme on Character Education. Some of the themes the students explored with the staff this year are: respect, tolerance, courage, being thankful, and kindness. During the months of January and February, the students have working on kindness and what it means to them. Students made cards for the Police and Fire Departments as well as the veterans at the V.A. Hospital. Cards were also made and sent to Savin Rock’s third and fourth grade students. On Feb. 2, the students dressed up like their favorite superhero, who is “powered by kindness.” They also created a tree of kindness with their painted handprints on it. The motto of the month, “Kindness Matters at Mackrille” has been printed on tee shirts that the students wore on Feb. 14.
