Veterans Day at PagelsStudents, teachers, faculty and staff of Pagels Elementary School participate in a Veterans Day ceremony Friday. The morning event, led by Principal Gary R. Palermo, included the raising of the American flag, the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of a patriotic song, as well as a student from each grade reading about a veteran. It culminated with students placing small flags along the sidewalk in front of the Benham Hill Road school.

Students of the monthSt. Lawrence School recently celebrated its Students’ of the Month for October, 2019 in a ceremony held at the school. The students were honored for their academics and achievements in the classroom. Each student was awarded a pin and certificate, and the students, along with their parents, were invited to have breakfast with Pastor Jose Mercado and Principal Paul DeFonzo. Historian's CornerChrist Church has stood on the Green since Revolutionary times. Members of the Anglican Church were viewed with suspicion and that suspicion prompted many to flee West Haven for friendlier place. The current church dates from 1903 and was designed by Ralph Adams Cram.

All Souls illuminationThe parish of Our Lady of Victory marked the Remembrance of All Souls on Nov. 4 with the names of loved ones illuminated along walkways on the parish grounds prior to the celebration of a special Mass. The project was sponsored by the parish Knights of Columbus council. All Souls Day sets aside prayers for the faithful departed who are undergoing purification before entering Heaven, according to Catholic belief.
