Celebrating the grand opening of the new auditorium, West Haven High School’s Theatre Workshop proudly presents Neil Simon’s Comedy Rumors on Oct. 24 and 25 at 7:30. Adult tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Student tickets are $5. The show contains adult language and is not suitable for children.
Family project
West Haven Community House’s Head Start program is in full swing with more than 140 preschoolers enrolled. Children and their families enjoyed an evening of arts and crafts. Families participate in monthly activities including literacy and nutrition information sessions, and, yes, arts and crafts.

Helping others
Mayor Nancy R. Rossi joins President Omer Kizilcik of the Wellspring Community Center, formerly known as the Turkish Cultural Center of Connecticut, on Oct. 3 at City Hall to announce the center’s gift of 120 pounds of ground beef to the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force. The donation was made possible through the center’s partnership with Embrace Relief, a nonprofit international humanitarian relief and development organization based in Fairfield, N.J. The beef was blessed Aug. 11-14 during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, meaning “Feast of Sacrifice.” The most important Islamic holiday marks the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim — Abraham to Christians and Jews — to sacrifice his son. Rose Majestic, executive director of WHEAT at 674 Washington Ave., said the beef will feed 4,000 city families in need.
Fisher House corner dedicated to soldier
Family of Adam Garcia as well as staff at the Fisher House took part in the recent ceremony dedicating a corner of the reception room to the fallen soldier.

Historian's Corner
The painting depicting the crossing of the West River into what was then called “West Farms” was commissioned as a WPA project during the construction of the Post Office on Campbell Avenue in the 1930. Besides constructing public buildings to alleviate joblessness during the Great Depression, artists were commissioned to decorate those buildings with local historical scenes and other items of interest.

Knights’ Ellis on a goal-scoring tear
Matt Consorte and the rest of the ND soccer team is scratching their heads at the absolute tear that Thomas Ellis has been on lately. The senior scored seven goals last week as the Green Knights won two of their three games.
Conference champions
The Seahawk Junior Peewees showoff their conference championship banner, medals and trophy after the competition. The squad took first place in the annual competition. The Seahawk Mitey Mite team also celebrated a first-place finish. The Seahawk Unified Spirit team performed, with help from their coaches, before a sellout crowd at the Conference championships.
