The West Haven Youth Soccer League played through beautiful weather on Saturday and pouring rain on Sunday. The RQ Professional Accounting and Tax Services Lightning Fairies took on Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center Dragons this week. Katarina Stratton played tough defense and stayed on top of the ball throughout the game. Avalyn Wilder scored twice. She kept control of the ball and made many nice passes to her teammates. Katherine Samaniego also scored as did Savannah Gilchrist, who scored one goal and blocked multiple shots made by the strikers.
The Elise Encarnacion State Farm Insurance Chrushing Tigers defeated Dillman & Dillman, LLC, 6-2, in an early Saturday morning game. Awab Abdelmageed scored three goals. Hakan Yanbul and Rodger Rodriguez also scored, and Rodriguez played outstanding defense and provided a game-changing assist to goaltender Nicholas Henninger, who performed a fantastic job.
Milano & Wanat got the 3-2 victory over Baybrook Remodelers. It was a total team effort by Milano & Wanat. On defense, big plays by Christian Ramirez-Chacon and Geronimo Osorio helped Goalie Julio Arroyo get the win. The attack was led by Michael Wilson, who picked up the brace. Cyncere Carter and Jordaniel Donis also played well.
Lorenzo’s Ristorante Green Beans defeated Stars Ice Cream. Lorenzo’s was led by Jada Avila, Chelsea Hernandez Fortin, Nylan Beyah, Ariana Tolentino and Yousra Moussa, who all scored. Shalyn Suchite-Henostroza played well in the goal. In an exciting match between West Haven Professional Fire Fighters and Stars Ice Cream, West Haven Professional Fire Fighters emerged victorious, 5-3. Notable goal scorers for the West Haven Professional Firefighters included David Govea and Doniel Agustin, with strong offensive support from Farid Saibou. Excellent defense from Abayomi Olatunji, Ibrahim Osman and Joey Sperry helped secure the win. It was a thrilling contest on the soccer pitch!
The U14 girls travel team hosted Orange last Sunday where they fought hard, but came up short, losing 3-0. Lulu Sebas had several amazing saves in net. Naomi Shubin and Lynnie Chesson both worked hard to gain control of the ball for West Haven. The girls were back in action Sunday, on the road to Southington, where they fought hard for a win but fell short, 2-0. Shubin took control of the ball and had several good plays for West Haven. Olivia Petrie was in net where she saved several shots on goal.
The Elite Soccer Camps West Haven U11 boys travel team played twice this past weekend. On Saturday they hosted rivals Guilford but fell, 3-1. Jaxon Cruz worked hard in the goal, making several saves to keep his team in the game. Seth Empric played solid defensively, as did Collin Gibbons. On Sunday, the U11’s hosted Meriden in rainy and muddy conditions. The Westies started off slow, finding themselves down, 2-1, at the half. Ryan Abekah scored the lone goal in the first half.
The second half was a different story, as the young Blue Devils came up strong. Abekah scored again to tie it up, then Roland Green notched a pair of goals to put West Haven up. Abekah would score to complete his hat trick, getting a beautiful pass from Adam Lamkhantar. Jax Guarino locked down the middle of the field defensively, and Luca DeCrescenzo was dangerous on the dribble. Joe Ruiz and Ben Trenchard were both aggressive on defense and made smart passes when they won the ball. Taha Ozhan worked the wide area of the field, and Jacob Rader was once again solid and dependable at center back.
