The Elite Soccer Camps U-12 girls travel team went to Prospect Saturday morning and fell, 2-1, to a skilled Prospect team. Cynthia Burns worked hard defensively, and Abigail Phelan battled on the flank. Camryn Flaherty broke up a lot of Prospect counter attacks and Ariana Izzo hit a great free kick that led to the Westies goal.
The Seacrest Retirement Center U-11 Thunder girls travel team played twice this weekend. On Saturday, the girls fell to Wallingford, 4-3. Lea Boguniecki played great in the midfield, capped by a pull back to roll off a defender and play a great pass forward. Katelynn Salgado showed a hard work rate while Llyanna Griffith-Waite and Jayden Braacker provided some solid defense. On Sunday, the girls bounced back with a 5-1 win over Haddam-Killingworth. Michelle Ceja and Amanda Fagnani put pressure on their opponents, while Sydni Gayle played well on defense. Chloe Whelan, Alex Nunes, and Amyah Kelly scored in the win for the Thunder.
The Elite Soccer Camps U-11 Lightning girls travel team lost a tough game to a very skilled Guilford team Saturday afternoon. Niamh Chesson, Sophie Mazuroski, Adelicia Parise, Annabelle Pasacreta and Chloe Whelan all worked hard to keep the pressure on Guilford. Kayla Burt made some tremendous saves in the net to keep her team in the game, while Aylin Soto, Jaylyn Powell, and Alexandria Nunes tried to spark the attack.
The Lions Club of West Haven U-9 West Haven girls travel team was at. West Haven won, 8-3 ,and dominated from start to finish. Camilla Murphy had two impressive goals. Michelle Mora had her first travel goal of the season and Kayci Gayle and Kaylee Pellino played strong in the win.
The Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center U-11 boys travel team took on Madison in their first league game of the season on Saturday, and after falling behind 3-1 in the first half, rallied in the second to come away with a 3-3 tie. Yahzeel Beyley came into the goal and held Madison scoreless in the second half, including a diving save in the last seconds of the game to preserve the tie. Antonio Brown, Ethan Masoperth, and Brian Cruz all scored.
The Eli’s Orange U-10 boys travel soccer team played a pair of close matches this weekend and came away with a win and a tie. The team is now 2-0-1 on the season. On Saturday afternoon at Peterson Field the Westies earned a dramatic 2-2 tie against New Haven. Trailing 2-0 with one minute to play in the game, Ibraham Bello won the ball in the corner and sent a cross into the box. Jovan Lakaj cracked a one-time volley upper 90 to put West Haven on the board. After the restart, the Westies goalie Maicon Miguel sent a drop kick over the New Haven defense. The ball bounced over the goalkeeper at the top of the box and Leo Mazuroski headed it toward the goal line. The goalie raced back and kept it from going in, but Sean Studley pounced on the loose ball and slammed it home to give West Haven an incredible tie. On Sunday the Westies traveled up I-95 to face Guilford. Rafi Treat was solid in goal in the first half and the Westies led 1-0 when Mehmet Aciker buried a nice feed from Ramy Mandhouj. Guilford tied it early in the second half, but Aciker knocked in his second tally of the match to make it 2-1. Terrific passing from Matt Panton and Treat led to the game-winning goal. Efrain Brown was solid on defense and Miguel made several acrobatic saves in the win. The York Business Center U12 Boys travel soccer team played two games this weekend. The team won both games this weekend moving their record to 4-0-0.
On Saturday at Duffy Field the U-12 boys beat Shelton Premier, 3-2. The only goal in the first half came on a corner kick from Giancarlo Esquivel to Maurizio Urriola who put the ball in the back of the net . The second half began with a goal from Shelton to tie it at 1-1. Munib Kassem put the Westies up 2-1 on another corner kick from Esquivel. Michael Luth faced two penalty kicks during the second half. He stayed composed in goal as he saved the first PK. On the second PK later in the half, Luth made the initial save, but the Shelton player was able to poke the rebound past Luth to tie the game at 2-2. With less than a minute to go in the match, Munib Kassem picked up a loose ball and dribbled half the length of the field to win the game for the Westies, 3-2. On Sunday the Westies took their three-game win streak on the road to Guilford for a match with Division A rival Guilford. The Westies made a statement for the upcoming league play with a convincing 7-1 win. Michael Luth played another solid game in net. Maurizio Urriola opened up the scoring with a shot outside the 18 yard box within the first few minutes of the match. Urriola netted another goal later in the game. Munib Kassem continued his goal scoring streak with 4 goals. Michael Cardoso and Giancarlo Esquivel both had goals in the second half.
The WH Italian-American Civic Associations Golden Phoenix U-10 boys played a great game Saturday, but fell short to Milano & Wanat. Ramirio Piatti, Jesus Rivera, and Jr. Xavier Ruiz-Martinez played a solid game. Rafi Treat played the entire game in goal, but Milano & Wanat offense proved to be too much for the Golden Phoenix.
The Elite Soccer Camps Red Dragons took on Dillman & Dillman Adjusters Saturday afternoon. Danny Aloi and Anthony Parise played well for Dillman & Dillman, while Jax Guarino netted his first goal of the season for the Red Dragons. Also adding goals for the Elite Soccer Red Dragons were Charlie Gunning, Julius Stokes and Colin Whelan. Ben Trenchard and a great defensive play, and Luca Decresenzo worked hard in the win for the Red Dragons.
The CT Pest Elimination took on the Mulkerin School of Irish Dance, winning, 7-6. Maxwell Taylor had a high energy game. He was all over the field, scoring a goal. Ethan Jacinto was a great team player. He was particularly strong on defense. Angelina Frosolone contributed an excellent overall game. The Stowe’s Seafood Blue Eels played Stars Ice Cream. The Blue Eels came out on top 6-1, behind three goals from Jessie Jain and one each from Dan Bello and Dave Dougherty, and with great defense from Tyler Geer and Omari Knox. The Apple Rehab the Blue Dragons the Elsie Encarnation- State Farm Insurance Gold Dragons, with the Blue Dragons taking home the 8-2 win. Adebanjo Olorunmaiye, Nathan Almeida, Joel Forbes-Wolfe and Kevin Sosa did a great job on the field. The Green Goblins were led by goals by several starters including Madison Garugiolo, Cristel Miguel and Ericka Tighe. Lynnie Chesson and Finley Gunning had an impressive day.
The Baybrook Remodelers Blue Hawks played hard against Bohemian Body Art Green Goblins, falling 2-0. Natalie Reed, Katarina Oliveira, and Sarahi Cruz-Cruz led the offense with solid passing and ball control. Madden Evangeliste, Isabel Millard and Melissa Valtierra provided strong defense along with Jada Fowler’s tough goaltending. The Apple Rehab of WH Orange Crush lost, 7-2, against Lacistrong Saturday. Isabella Antonucci scored both goals for the Orange Crush. Leeanna Perez played excellent offense the entire game. Alana Hendley had a lot of really good saves in the goal. Oyster River Energy Soccer Rockers played against Stars Ice Cream, losing 2-0. Genesis Morales-Linares of the Rockers played strong defense, and was able to stop a couple shots on goal. Both Madeleine McCarthy and Michelle Tompkins played excellently in their midfield positions. Madeleine was able to break up some attacks from Stars Ice Cream, while Michelle showed off some fancy. The Rock House Grey Wolves U-10 boys had a great game on Saturday. They were led by outstanding defense by Chase Agvent and Jackson Murphy. Jovan Lakaj scored a goal and played solid in goal and Quennel Nesmith had his first goal of the season.
The Gunning Law Firm Red Wolves U-8 girls kept their great play going. Sophia Empiric had great control of the ball the entire game and Jaquelyn Rivera was voted defensive player of the game. Arianna Throm held down the midfield and played solid soccer on both sides of the ball.
The WH Professional Fire Fighters Green Machine lost a hard fought game, 5-1, to Porto Funeral Homes. Robert Jackson scored the lone goal, while some great footwork was displayed by Eddie Fagnani. Strong defense was played by Nathan Spreyer and Lamont Woods.
The Cappetta’s Italian Imports Blue Birds lost, 4-0, to Top Hat Dance Academy, but left it all out on the field as they played with heart and determination. Leila Lancaster and Jocelyn Kenny just missed the goal a few times. Alyssa Koontz and Giada Jimenez played great defense, and Allianna Wilson hustled all over the field making a few key plays for the Blue Birds. In the final game of the weekend, Watson Foods Co, LLC, played a thrilling 4-4 tie with West Haven Family Dental.
