The Elite Soccer Camps U-15 girls travel team opened up the soccer playing weekend with two games. On Saturday, the girls traveled to Wallingford, winning 3-0. Cassie Wadeka kept the shut-out, aided by the strong play on defense from Isabelle Nagle and Cindy Burns. Olivia Trenchard bossed the midfield, breaking up plays and connecting passes. Ariana Izzo buried the first goal from the penalty spot and Julia Tsakonas netted the other two. Brooke Throm, Alyvia Ginsberg and Josephina Lakaj put in a lot of hustle on the flanks.
On Sunday, the girls traveled to Madison, and fell 3-1, in a well-played, hard fought game. Nevaeh Swanson, Celia Williams, Melissa Tsakonas and Camryn Flaherty were solid on defense. Emma Walker never stopped working on both sides of the ball, while Brooke Flaherty and Camryn Beauvais provided support on defense and worked hard to get the attack going.
The Apple Rehab of West Haven U-12 Thunder girls travel team traveled to Orange on Saturday. In a nose to nose battle, the Thunder held Orange scoreless in the first half, but eventually fell, 2-0. Lea Boguniecki and Madyson Ortiz set-up their teammates with some well-timed passes, and Bellarose Ramirez and Aarya Mulmi put Orange under constant pressure. Jayden Braaker, Michelle Ceja and Isabella Melissano played well for the Thunder as well.
The Elite Soccer Camps U-12 Lightning girls travel team hosted Naugatuck Sunday afternoon, and came out on top, 5-1. Jayden Powell opened up the scoring for the Lightning, putting the ball into the back of the off of a free kick. Later in the game, Powell had another free kick saved, but Etta Funke was there to nail in the rebound. Ciara Harp also scored, while Chloe Whelan, Niamh Chesson, and Sophie Mazuroski were all superb on defense. Taylor Guarino pulled off a couple of awesome step overs to get passed defenders, and Jaelyn Beauvais and Ashlynn Trenchard put in a solid day’s work in the midfield for the Lightning.
The Milano & Wanat U-10 girls took down both opponents this weekend, with a 4-2 win over Prospect and a 3-1 win over Milford. Kayci Gayle led the team on Saturday with two goals, followed by Camilla Murphy and Isabella Antonucci with a goal each.
At Sunday’s games, goals were scored again by Camilla Murphy and Isabella Antonucci, with Madison Gargiulo adding a goal as well. Both Valentina DeMartino and Arianna Throm did well in goal and Amiyah Jones played strong defense and Cristel Miguel showed some great hustle.
In league action this weekend, the Elite Soccer Camps Green Beans played Saturday morning against Dillman & Dillman Adjusters, LLC, with the Green Beans coming out victors, 9-3. Ryan Abekah and Solomon Benton worked hard, and Christley Lops, Zara Joseph, Layla Nesmith, and Isabelle Ortiz showed their growing soccer skills. Briana Valtierra and Nora Vega-Crocker played good defense, and Jax Guarino and Ben Trenchard showcased their dribbling and goal-scoring abilities in the win for the Green Beans. For Dillman & Dillman Adjusters, Ava Ciccarelli, Burkland Wray, and Malakai Inahuazo all played hard.
The Rock House School of Music Blue Rams defeated WH Professional Firefighters, 5-0, Quennell Nesmith had an outstanding offensive game and scoring a few, while Chase Agvent and Ali Maula each added a goal in the victory. Great defense was played by Xavier McMillan and Alexander Peralta. The Bohemian Body Art Bobcats defeated the Gunning Law Firm Fireballs, 5-2. Goals were scored by Kayci Gayle, Camilla Murphy and Lexi Lucas. Strong show in goal by the Pellino sisters, Kaylee and Ava.
In F Division play, the Cappetta’s Italian Imports Killer Bees played an impressive game against Dillman & Dillman Adjusters, with an 11-9 win. Giada Jimenez, Luciana Cappetta, Annabelle Fiorillo, Alyssa Koontz, and Jocelyn Kenny all scored, while Abbey Forsyth picked up an assist. The Gunning Law Firm Grays fell to the West Haven Italian-American Civic Association, 11-6. Charlie Gunning, Tobias Warcholic, Julius Stokes, Marco Antonucci all scored, and Aiden Slate and Anthony Villeda showed some great hustle. The Cornell Scott Hill Health Center Green Apples played Top Hat Dance Academy, losing 5-0. Isabella Cooper showed her passion for the game, giving everything she had and playing with her heart and soul. Gianna Natale used her footwork to play aggressively and attack the ball.
Baybrook Remodelers played Stars Ice Cream, and although they tried hard, they lost the game, 5-1. Ava Dasilva continually attacked the ball in her defensive position. Cheyenne Sebas scored her first goal this season off a penalty kick. The CT Pest Elimination Blue Dragons Coach Maggie’s won, 10-5, against Lacistrong. Goals were scored by Jacob Rader, Folake Olorunmaiye and Bianca Arroyo. Also scoring were Jeshrun Polington, Roland Green and Jaire Brruss Setzer. The Stowe’s Seafood Gold Fish played West Shore Family Dental in a hard-fought battle with the Gold Fish coming up short 5-4. A great goal was scored by Ato Ofosu-Appiah and great field play was shown by Adam Boulguid, Zach Shippy, and Tyler Geer. Junior Salguero did a great job minding the net.
The Stars Ice Cream Blue Seals battled Oyster River Energy Rockers to a 3-3 draw. The Blue Seals were led by Marjorie Hernandez-Fortune, Nada El Moulin, Caydance Hill, Carnasia Shabazz, and Camille Merritt played good on defense. For the Rockers, Mya Ajanaku scored. Asia Ford stepped up to play goalie for the first time, making several saves that she pushed over the bar, and Lliannay Romero played well in the outside midfield position.
The Mulkerin School of Irish Dancing Golden Dragons took on York Business Center and took the win, 11-7. Leonidis Dews, Ahmed Hashem and Jayden Prates were the stars this week. The Lions Club of West Haven Red Lions played Seacrest Retirement Center, losing 6-5. Gabriel Nascimento and Jimmy Clark led the way for the Red Lions playing all over the field. Ethan Jacinto and Trent Fagan contributed well for the team playing excellent defense for the Red Lions.
In the final action of the weekend, Watson Foods Co, LLC battled Eli’s Orange to a 4-4 draw, with both teams combining for some great goals. Porto Funeral Homes won a decisive victory over Elsie Encarnation-State Farm Insurance 3-0. Matthew Treat scored the brace and Chris Petrie scored a brilliant goal from a diving header.
