The West Haven Wizards won their final meet of the season against the New Milford Barracudas, 364-287, ending the regular season undefeated at 8-0.
The 8-and-under girls earned one or more of the top three finishing spots in each of their events. The medley relay team of Anna Piskura, Aubrey Holthais, Sophia DeLauri and Linnette Mendoza took a 1st place finish in the 100-yard. Anna Piskura, London Ryan and Noami Shubin took all three spots in 25-freestyle;Aubrey Holthaus and Sophia DeLauri took first and third in the 25-yard butterfly; Piskura, Arianna Rose and Ryan swept in the 25-yard backstroke; Holthaus and Linnette Mendoza earned 2nd and 3rd place in the 100-yard individual medley; Emma Dorjee, Holthaus and DeLauri earned swept in the 25-yard breaststroke; Piskura and Rose earned first and third in the 50-yard freestsyle, and Mendoza, Ryan, Shubin and Dorjee finished the meet with a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle relay.
This season there have been many close races with exceptionally close finishes, but this meet featured the closest race of the season. Erin Morton touched out the New Milford swimmer to win the girls 11/12 200-yard individual medley by 1/100th of a second.
At the end of the last home meet of each season, it is the Wizards tradition to honor their graduating swimmers with a “Last Lap” ceremony. This year the Wizards have only one graduating swimmer. Anya Celmer has been swimming with the Wizards for 12 years and has been an important part of the team both in and out of the pool. The Wizards would like to congratulate Anya and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
The Wizards next meet will be Yankee League Trials on Feb. 16-17.
