The West Haven U10 girls gravel team was home against Guilford this past weekend to finish out the season. The game ended, 4-1, in favor of West Haven. West Haven came out ready to play with and early goal by Juliana Aviles. The best moment of the game was Ariel Titus making a great pass to the open space to find Lehanna Philogene for an easy tap in goal. West Haven ended the season on a six-game winning streak.
The U11 girls ended the season on the road against Hamden, falling short, 4-2. Annabelle Fiorillo played solid defense for West Haven, with Celeste DiNallo and Olivia Petrie making some strong moves up and down the field. Luciana Cappetta put two in the net for West Haven.
The U10 boys team finished out the season with a pair of games. On Friday, the boys traveled to Naugatuck to play under the lights for the first time. Even though the Westies passed and moved the ball well, the older and more experienced Naugatuck team eventually pulled away with a 4-0 win. Jaxon Cruz played a strong game in goal, stopping a number of shots. Jax Guarino and Colin Gibbons played well on defense. The midfield was anchored by Davonte King and Matteo D’Elia, who both opened the Naugatuck defense with their dribbling skills. Jesus Rangel made some great passes, and Ryan Abekah kept up the pressure on the Naugatuck goal, forcing their goalie to make several great saves.
The U10’s were back in action Sunday morning, traveling to Madison. The field conditions hurt the Westies as they fell, 2-0. Roland Green created some solid chances on goal, and was foiled on a few breakaways by a puddle on the field. Luca DeCrescenzo also had several shots on the Madison goal, but just could not find the back of the net. Seth Empric, Jimmy Clark, and Nathan Powell all worked hard in the center of the field, getting up and down the pitch to contribute to the attack and the defense. Tonye Isaac and Ben Trenchard kept up the defensive pressure, making a few big plays in the defensive third of the field. Russell Rambo showed a lot of hustle in the game for the Westies.
The Gunning Law Firm Rhinos defeated #DAVILATRIBE, 6-0, to close out an incredible season. The Rhinos took an early lead and never looked back with great goals from Valentina Massa and Julissa Oliveras. Emma Routh showed great foot skills and tackling on defense. Lehanna Philogene made incredible diving saves to keep the shut out.
The Cornell Scott Hill Health Center Golden Ninjas finished the season strong with another great game against Vio’s Sports Plus. Alexios Billis, Aristides Billis, and Tylan Thompson had ha great season and improved each week. The Stars Ice Cream Gold Stars defeated Stowes Seafood, 6-2. The Stars were led by Chelsea Hernabdez Fortin with four goals, and Bellarose Ramirez and Jada Avila with one goal apiece. Yousra Moussa and Fourela Dembele played great in goal. The entire team played a great game on the final day of the season.
On Saturday, the R. Mark Pappas Navy Bluebirds played Cappetta’s Italian Imports in a very competitive, back-and-forth game before giving up a last minute goal and losing, 4-3. On offense, the Bluebirds were led by Winter Valdivieso , Phoebe DiNuzzo and Isabella Celentano, each notching a goal.
The defense was led by Brooklyn Yekinni, Brooklyn O’Meara and Amelia Rambo in net, who made several key saves.
The Seacrest Retirement Center FC finished the season with a strong team effort to win 3-0 against the Top Hat Dance Academy. Excellent ball movement helped provide shots on goal, with the goals scored by Anthony DiMeglio and Charles Jeffrey. Well-rounded play from Joshua Vernon and Johnathan Alvarez helped control the game, while Caden Craven and the rest of the team provided the defense.
The Elite Soccer Camps Golden Wolves finished the season in a tough loss to Sports Sanitizing of CT, 3-2. Matteo D’Elia and Mason Dixon controlled the midfield, and Ryan Abekah sparked the attack.
