After a week off due to poor weather, the West Haven Youth Soccer League was back in action the weekend of June 4. The Sports Sanitizing of CT-Doritos played Vio’s Sports Plus, with the Doritos winning, 7-2. Sebastian Rivas led the way for the Doritos scoring a brace. Jimmy Clark played well overall in attack and on defense. Alex Johnson also contributed with hustle and a goal.
The Gunning Law Firm Yellow Jackets put up an incredible performance defeating Cappetta’s Italian Import ,4-0. Lehanna Philogene scored two goals and Wynter Branham, and Allie Powers scored their first goals of the season. For Cappetta’s Italian Imports, Karla Urgiles had great footwork and Julianna Aviles worked hard to get the ball up the field.
The R. Mark Pappas D.C. Blue Lightning squared off against Shoreline Wellness coming out with a 6-1 win. The first half was played close by both teams with good defense and controlled offense. For the Lightning, the defense was led by Destinee Epps, Anne Charles and Taliah Boykin. Making key plays was Phoebe DiNuzzo and Brooklyn O’Mara took on the goalkeeper duties making several great stops. On offense, the Lightning was led by Ava Pellino, supported by Allyson Hernandez Arce and Stella Porto.
The First Congregational Church of West Haven’s played extremely well against the Rock House School of Music. Jolee Bellamy scored, while Trinity Smith played well on both sides of the ball scoring her first goal of the season. Isabel Millard played very well on defense. The Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center Gold Ninjas played the West Haven Police Local 895 Maroon Wolfs. Enzo Cordova’s hard work is paying off and he scored a few goals. Jayceon Gonzalez displayed some quick dribbling skills and scored, while Liam Rowland played strong, always with a big smile, and gave it his all. The Stars Ice Cream Blue Sharks played #DAVILATRIBE to a 5-5 draw. The Sharks were led by Chelsea Hernandez Fortin and Haley Colon, who both picked up two goals. Sarahi Cruz-Cruz scored the other goal. Adalyn Davis, Kayley Myers, and Jada Avila all played well.
The Elite Soccer Camps Red Rangers took on Porto Funeral Homes in a closegame. Ryan Abekah, Taylor Bell, Jax Guarino and Luca DeCresenzo all found the back of the net. Benjamin Trenchard played strong defense, while Emmett and Abigail Hemming dazzled with their footwork. Jacob Rader and Matteo D’Elia made several passes, and Collin Gibbons and Brandon Rylski worked hard throughout the match.
In travel team action, the Oyster River Energy West Haven U9 girls traveled to Orange for a rivalry showdown. West Haven dominated from start to finish. Klara Frost was excellent on defense, while Ariel Titus, Allyson Hernandez, Lehanna Philogene, and Alessia Coletta all scored to give the Westies the 4-0 win.
The Milano & Wanat U10 girls had a busy weekend beginning with a 6-3 win at home against Southington. Kylee McCoart made some great saves in goal. Celeste DiNallo, Olivia Petrie, and Luciana Cappetta all scored for West Haven. On Sunday, the girls fought hard against Prospect, but fell short, 3-2. Annabelle Fiorillo dominated in defense. Stella Porto and Luciana Cappetta put two in the net for West Haven.
On Saturday night, the Top Hat Dance Academy U19 West Haven Blue Devils Girls Travel team played a game at Ken Strong Stadium against a solid East Haven team, coming away with a 5-1 win. Aylvia Ginsberg played strong in net making saves when needed. The defense was anchored by Cece Williams, Grace Nowak, Ava Murphy, and Riley Severino. On offense, the Blue Devils were led with Cori Severino netting 3 goals, Maddie Lentine scoring on a nice well-placed shot in the corner and Julia Tsakonas banging one in from inside the box.
On Sunday, the Westies played against New Haven. It was a well-played game despite the heat and the fact the Westies were shorthanded and played down three players the whole game. Despite the odds, West Haven prevailed, 2-1. Nada El Mouki was excellent in net. The defense was led by Ava Murphy, Cece Williams, Olivia Trenchard and Bianca Davila. Arianna Izzo scored the first goal, running onto a pass from Trenchard, beating the keeper and slotting it home. Lola Dinuzzo scored the winning goal, picking up a pass from Abigail Phelan.
The West Haven Youth Soccer League got a full slate of games in, despite some rainy weather on Saturday. The Stars Ice Cream Sharks defeated the Rock House School of Music, 8-6. The Sharks were led by Haley Colon with five goals, Sarahi Cruz Cruz added two goals and Chellsea Folio Hernandez had one. Jada Avila and Fourela Dembele played great defense.
UNH played Baybrook Remodelers in a great game with, with Baybrook Remodelers coming out on top, 6-0. The Christensen triplets played great on the field, with David scoring three goals, and Paul and Stephen showed great field play. Other goals were scored by Joe Sperry, Caleb Awuah, and Christian Reyes. Great field play was also shown by Donald Moore and Isaiah Boyd. The Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center Gold Ninjas played Oyster River Energy in a close match. The Gold Ninjas had an awesome and fun game with Frankie Tortora showing his increased speed and strength and Zeke Hanlin show casing a lot of hustle to earn his hat trick.
Cappetta’s Italian Imports played an impressive game against R. Mark Pappas D.C. Blue Lightning, winning 7-3. It was a great team effort with goals by Jocelyn Kenny, Annabelle Fiorillo, Olivia Petrie, Francesca DeMartino, and Luciana Cappetta. For the Blue Lightening, the offense was led by Allyson Hernandez and Stella Porto. Phoebe Dinuzzo chipped in with setting up several key plays in front of the Cappetta’s Italian Imports net. The Blue Lightning defense was led by Taliah and Ava Boykin, Destinee Epps and Anne Charles. Brooklyn O’Mara secured the net for the Blue Lightning.
The Elite Soccer Camps Red Rangers played a great game against the Maroon Wolf’s. The Rangers showed off their passing and moves. Ben Trenchard picked up a goal, supported by Jax Guarino and Brandon Rylski. Emmett Hemming and Matteo D’Elia impressed with their footwork, and Luca DeCrescenzo, Collin Gibbons, and Jacon Rader all put in a solid day’s work for the Rangers. Milano & Wanat defeated Vio’s Sports Plus, 2-1, in a strong defensive effort for both teams. Julius Stokes and Devante King played a great game, while Jayden Abekah and Aden Dowdye scored. The Gunning Law Firm Yellow Jackets faced off against Shoreline Wellness in a very entertaining match. The Yellow Jackets took the early lead when Ariel Titus scored on a beautiful pass from Alissa Watson. In the end, the Yellow Jackets fell short, 3-2. Avery Linen did a terrific job defending for the Yellow Jackets.
The West Haven U10 girls travel team fought hard against Guilford at home, but came up short with a 4-1 loss. Kylee McCoart had some great saves in goal with Annabelle Fiorillo working hard in defense. Stella Porto put one in net for West Haven. The U9 girls also hosted Guilford Saturday, in their last game of the season. Not wanting the season to end on a bad note, West Haven played with great passes, foot skills and toughness. Amy Congacha and Karine Davilla provided the scoring, while Kendall Gilchrest, Phoebe DiNuzzo, and Allie Power controlled the defense for West Haven. The game ended 2-2 when Guilford got a late goal.
