Three Notre Dame Student-Athletes Sign NLI to Play NCAA Division I — Three Notre Dame of West Haven student-athletes made their college choices official on Thursday, November 9, 2017 by signing their National Letter of Intent (NLI) to their respective school in front of family and friends in a ceremony held in the Maureen and George ‘58 Collins Auditorium.
Andrew Forchetti signed his NLI to attend Bryant University where he will play tennis.West Haven native North Hansen signed his NLI to attend the University of Connecticut where he will swim.Michael Sansone signed his NLI to attend Fairfield University where he will play baseball.
Forchetti had arguably the greatest tennis season in school history last spring. He won the CIAC Class L state championship, the first in school history, by beating New Canaan’s Alex Merjian 6-1, 6-3. He then advanced to the finals of the CIAC State Open falling to Staples Evan Felcher in a match played at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven.
Hansen has helped the ND swim/dive team to excellent seasons throughout his career. Last year, the Green Knights finished with an 8-2 dual-meet season, a second-place team finish at the CIAC Class M Championship Meet. The team swam and dove their way to a 4th-place finish at the SCC Championship Meet and 10th-place effort at the CIAC State Open Meet. Hansen was both the 200 and 500 freestyle at the Class M Meet.
Sansone, who was a key part of Notre Dame’s 2016 state title team, helped the baseball team to a quarterfinal run in the spring of 2017. He went 5-3 with three saves in 13 appearances for Notre Dame head coach Don Martone ‘87. He had a stellar 74-5 strikeout to walk ratio as a junior.

Football Falls to Shelton 40-6 — The Shelton Gaels showcased early and often why they are one of the state’s top teams scoring six first-half touchdowns as they cruised to their eighth win of the season by virtue of their 40-6 win over Notre Dame last Friday.
The Gaels, who clinched a CIAC Class LL playoff berth with the win, took advantage of an early Notre Dame miscue to take control of the game. Following an Isaiah Kane ‘18 fumble, it took Shelton just two play to get on the board on a 4-yard run by Jack Carr.
Quarterback Jake Roberts then took over scoring on a 2-yard TD run then throwing a pair of passes as Shelton built up a 40-0 halftime lead. The Green Knights avoided the shutout courtesy of a 40-yard touchdown run by Zachary Hochman on the first play of the fourth quarter. Hochman added five catches for 28 yards on the night.
Notre Dame will conclude its season with the annual Green Bowl game vs Hamden on Thanksgiving morning.
