Kite event honors Ziada
The second annual Kite Event hosted by the First Congregational Church of West Haven will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. The event will take place on the lawn in front of Savin Rock on Captain Thomas Boulevard by the Conference Center.
Kites and Face Painting are FREE. Fried Dough Pizza by Franco’s. Please join us in celebrating the Memory of John (Johnny Z) Ziada. Donations are welcomed and all proceeds to benefit the John Ziada Family Education Fund.

WH butler to speak
Former White House butler Alan DeValerio will give a presentation at the West Haven Senior Center in the Johnson Community Center on April 21.
WHSC members will get the inside scoop from DeValerio on the preparations for entertaining at the White House, including how the functions have evolved from the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Biden administration.
The 45-minute presentation is set for 10 a.m. at 201 Noble St. and will include a Q&A session.

‘Opera Rara’ hosts benefit
Sir Charles Productions, and the Church of the Holy Spirit present “Opera Rara,” a benefit concert for the The West Haven Emergency Alliance Task Force (WHEAT), at the Church of the Holy Spiri, 28 Church St., on April 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Arias and duets from rarely heard operas by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Mozart, Bizet, Korngold, Lehar, Floyd, and Moore as sung by soprano Vicki Revere, tenor Thomas Heilman and accompanied by Eric Trudel.
The program includes: La Didoneby by Cavalli; La Finta Giardiniera by Mozart; Carmen by Bizet; Die tote Stadt by Korngold; Susanna by Floyd; The Ballad of Baby Doe by Moore, Der Czarevitch by Lehar, and The Coronation of Poppeia by Monteverdi.

Stamp Club meets Tuesdays
The New Haven Stamp Club has a stamp club meeting every Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at 62 Clark Road in North Haven. There is also a coin and stamp show at the Annex Club, 554 Woodward Ave., New Haven, on the 4th Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome.
Parishes plan food drive
A Food Drive will be held on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St Louis Church of St John XXIII parish, 89 Bull Hill Lane, to benefit WHEAT. Most needed food items are peanut butter, mac and cheese, tomato sauce, pasta, soup, hot and cold cereal, canned vegetables. This is a Drive-Thru event sponsored by Our Lady of Victory and St John XXIII parishes. Monetary donations (cash or checks payable to WHEAT) are greatly appreciated and can be brought to the Food Drive or mailed to WHEAT, 674 Washington Ave., West Haven 06516.
