Welcome back to Behind the Stacks! We were so glad to see so many of you attend our $10-Fill-A-Bag book sale over this past weekend, hosted by the Friends of the West Haven Library. These large book sales are the Friends’ biggest fundraisers of the year, and help contribute greatly to sponsoring library programs, museum passes, and our Library of Things (just to name a few). The Friends had so many items left over, they may even hold a pre-holiday flash sale–keep an eye out for more information to come!
Even though our summer reading programs have ended, kids still have lots to look forward to coming to West Haven Libraries! On Sept. 8 we celebrate the return of storytimes with a special musical performance by Grammy-Nominated artist, Judy Pancoast! Judy’s songs are engaging, interactive and sure to get your little one up and dancing! Performance will be followed by muffins and a craft. Also be on the lookout for various recurring programs at both our branches, such as the new Tots and Tales storytime, Music and Motion on the Green, and Tiny Tales for stories, songs, and rhymes also on the Town Green!
Adults can look forward to our upcoming yoga and mediation sessions, as well as our DIY Upcycled Scrunchies craft, where you can feel free to drop it at any time! In the spirit of sustainability, you are encouraged (but not required) to bring your own fabrics. The theme of this month’s cooking club is vegetarian cuisine, so if you have an exciting recipe to share, let us know and register for this club! There are also quilting clubs, cross-stitching groups, and multiple book clubs available to join, so feel free to call or stop by the library during any time we are open for more information.
For all the theatre lovers, the Savin Rock Theatre Company will be performing their play, Daddy Long Legs at the Ora Mason Library this weekend! Performances will be taking place on the following dates and times: Friday, September 5th at 7:00 pm, Saturday, September 6th at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, September 7th at 3:00 pm. The Ora Mason Library is located at 260 Benham Hill Road, and tickets are available for purchase through the Savin Rock Theatre Company’s website: savinrocktheatreco.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
Don’t forget–September is Library Card Sign-Up month! We encourage anyone without a card, or with an expired card, to come in and renew. There will be raffles held for adults and children alike to motivate our residents to get their card and take advantage of all the library has to offer. Spread the word!
This Wednesday, I will be coming to visit the Ora Mason Library to see the art exhibit by three local artists. I’m looking forward to this.
