Weatherspoon, who served stateside from October 1983 to August 1991, will lead the city’s Memorial Day parade as grand marshal when the procession steps off at 10:30 a.m. Monday along Campbell Avenue.

Veterans Walk’s 17th dedication slatedPeople line the Veterans Walk of Honor in Bradley Point Park to search for bricks purchased in honor of loved ones, both living and deceased, during the city’s Phase 16 dedication of the Walk of Honor on May 25, 2024. About 3,100 bricks with personalized messages have been installed to date, including 72 for this year’s Phase 17, which West Haven Veterans Council members and city officials will dedicate at 5 p.m. Saturday, along with memorial additions.

Mental Health Awareness FairHealth Director Sheila Carmon and Mayor Dorinda Borer check out Bridges Healthcare’s Wellness on Wheels vehicle at the Mental Health Awareness Fair in front of City Hall on May 8. The WOW mobile clinic provides residents with accessible, streetside health care treatment. Staffed with a nurse practitioner and a medical assistant, WOW offers physical exams, health screenings and tests, mental health screenings, and addiction screenings, referrals and follow-ups. The program aims to eliminate barriers for those without access to health insurance or facing difficulties reaching and obtaining health treatment. The four-hour fair highlighted a range of mental health services for residents, including services for children.

WHHS students participate in Youth Service Bureau DayMembers of the West Haven High School Youth Committee participate in Youth Service Bureau Day at the state Capitol on April 29. Committee members joined youth advocates and leaders from across Connecticut to highlight the importance of youth service bureaus in supporting young people and families. One member participated in a Q&A session with multiple legislators, using their voice to represent West Haven and advocate for continued investment in youth services. West Haven Youth and Family Services and the West Haven Prevention Council are proud of the dedicated group of students for their continued support and advocacy on behalf of the city’s young people.
