Fresh off a bye week, the West Haven football team was looking to pick up it fourth win of the season. Cheshire had other ideas.
Taking control from start to finish, the Rams trounced the Westies 35-0 at Cheshire High. Cheshire led 14-0 after one quarter of play, then added one touchdown in each quarter for the win.
Cheshire set the tone with a 15-play drive on the ground which ate all but three minutes of the opening quarter for a 7-0 lead.
Trailing 21-0, West Haven looked to get back in the game to start the second half. A turnover stalled the Westies and led to a Cheshire touchdown drive and 28-0 lead.
West Haven allowed close to 260 yards rushing on the night.
The West Haven volleyball team rallied from two games down to defeat Mercy 3-2. With the 22-25, 20-25, 25-14, 27-25, 15-8 victory, West Haven improved to 14-4 on the year.
Jen Ngo led the way with 39 assists, 10 digs, and four kills. Dominique Fidalgo had 14 digs, four aces, and three kills, Marley Wilson had 12 kills, Gulianna Ruggerio added 10 kills and nine digs, Amani Dumbuya had nine digs, Sam Close added eight kills, and Mia Roman had five digs and four kills.
West Haven won its second match in a row and fourth in five contests with a 3-0 victory over Hillhouse. The 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 win helped the Westies improve to 15-4.
Ngo had nine assists, Chloe Payne added eight kills and four aces, and Roman had five aces in the win.
With a 15-5 regular season record, the Westies opened postseason play against East Haven in the opening round of the Southern Connecticut Conference. West Haven wasted no time taking control of the match and posted a 3-0 victory.

Ngo led the way with 23 assists and nine digs. Ruggerio had five digs, four kills, four aces, and three assists, Fidalgo added seven digs and four aces, and Close had four kills and three digs.
The West Haven girls soccer team moved to 4-7-2 with a 2-2 tie at Lyman Hall. West Haven battled throughout the contest, but the Westies could not get the eventual winning goal.
Amiyah Jones scored both West Haven goals in the draw.
West Haven inched closer to the postseason with a 5-2 victory over Branford. With the win, the Westies improved to 5-7-2 and inched a point away from playing in the postseason.
Jones and Izzy Millard each scored twice, with Millard finishing twice on corner kicks. Stella Porto also scored in the win for West Haven.
Needing a win or tie in one of its final two road games to play past the regular season, the West Haven girls soccer team fell short of qualifying for the postseason.
A 2-1 loss at East Haven and a 7-0 defeat at Shelton left West Haven with a 5-9-2 record.
After a scoreless draw against Hand-Madison, the West Haven boys soccer team prepared for another tough match against Fairfield Prep. In a hard-fought contest, the Westies fell 2-1 and dropped to 7-2-5 on the year.
After a scoreless first half in which the Westies hit the post 12 minutes in, the Jesuits scored twice in less than eight minutes to take a 2-0 lead with 12:48 remaining in the contest.
The Westies then stormed back, mounting an attack which saw Bryan Monge miss just over the net with 11:35 remaining. Monge’s pressure continued West Haven’s momentum as the Westies got within 2-1 when Pedro Furtado scored with 9:30 remaining to cut the deficit in half.
A final rally by the Westies fell short in the 2-1 loss.
West Haven snapped a three-game winless streak and improved to 8-2-5 with a 4-2 victory over Wilbur Cross. Nate Charron scored three times in the first half for a 3-1 lead, before Youssouf Keira scored off a nifty shot in front with 15:28 remaining in the game for a 4-2 advantage.


Charron gave the Westies a 1-0 lead off a goal in front 2:39 into the contest, before his second goal of the half gave West Haven a 2-1 advantage. Charron then scored with 1:39 left in the half to increase the margin to 3-1.
Following a 3-1 victory over Cheshire to finish the regular season 9-2-5, West Haven earned the third seed in the Southern Connecticut Conference quarterfinals and hosted sixth-seeded Amity. The Westies jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead, but a furious second half comeback by the Spartans helped eliminate the Westies from the conference tournament with a 3-2 defeat.
The Westies took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Amar Sanounou scored from in front with 10:16 remaining. West Haven then increased the margin to 2-0 when Youssouf Keira fed Monge for a goal and a 2-0 West Haven lead with 1:28 remaining in the opening half.
Despite controlling play to start the second half, the Westies could not add another tally. Amity capitalized by scoring the equalizer with 12:53 remaining in regulation and the eventual winner 4:24 later.
The West Haven girls swimming team fell to 1-8 with an 89-79 loss at Shelton. The Westies were victorious in five events, including a pair of relays.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Arianna Rose, Isobel Roche, Sophia DeLauri, and Emily Falanga won in 2 minutes, 52 seconds, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Falanga, Roche, DeLauri, and Rose won in 4:31.96.
Rose also won the 200 freestyle in 2:17.55, and the 100 backstroke in 1:09.43. Falanga posted a victory in the 50 freestyle in 28.80 seconds.
West Haven dropped a 94-83 decision to Jonathan Law in Milford. The Westies had six first place finishes in the loss which dropped the Westies to 1-9 on the year.
Rose won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 36.66 seconds, and also placed first in the 500 freestyle in 6:09.60. Rose was also part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team of Falanga, Brooklynn Loehfelm, and DeLauri in 4:32.08.
DeLauri won the 100 butterfly in 1:13.42, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.81. Natalia Lowe won the 100 backstroke in 1:21.81.
West Haven fell to 1-10 with a 95-83 loss against Hamden. Rose was victorious in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.31m while also posting a victory in the 500 freestyle in 6:19.92.
The 100 breaststroke was won by Loehfelm in 1:36.11, while the 400 freestyle relay of DeLauri, Roche, Falanga, and Rose won in 4:25.39.
