State Rep. Dorinda Borer (D-West Haven) has been appointed to serve as House Chairman of the legislature’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs by Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz.
Borer, known for her unwavering support of veterans’ issues, did not hesitate to accept the job when she got the call.
Rep. Borer said her new role would be another step toward helping the state’s vets.
“I am elated to have been tapped by the Speaker to serve the CT General Assembly in this role. Whether it’s improving healthcare, mental health access, jobs or family support, we need to continue to focus on supporting this critical population who has sacrificed for all of us.”
The Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, established in 2005, oversees all matters relating to military and veterans. Expanded eligibility for veterans to receive local property tax exemptions and tuition breaks at Connecticut’s public colleges and universities, as well as protecting personal information of members of the Armed Forces and veterans to safeguard information collected by businesses are some of the issues the committee has championed over the years.
“Rep. Borer’s commitment to improving the quality of life for our military and veterans makes her a great choice to lead this important committee,” Aresimowicz said. “I am pleased to have Dorinda join our leadership team as we look forward to making positive changes that help everyone in our state.”
“I am grateful to Speaker Aresimowicz for entrusting me to help lead in this area for Connecticut. With a population of approximately one quarter of a million veterans in CT, our committee will be actively reviewing legislation and seeking input from the public across the state to address their concerns,” Borer said.
In addition to the new assignment, Rep. Borer will continue to serve on the Environment and Public Health Committees.
All lawmakers began serving their new terms after being sworn yesterday.
