The Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Conference and the Northern Connecticut Pop Warner Conference hosted the 2019 state cheerleading championships on Saturday at the New Haven Fieldhouse located on the campus of Hillhouse High School. Cheerleading teams gathered from around the state for a full day of competitive cheerleading. West Haven fared well on all the levels. The Tiny Mite squad (5&6) presented a non-competitive exhibition routine that was very well done. The Mitey Mite team placed third. The Junior Peewee, Peewees and the Junior Varsity squads all were crowned as State Champions. Next weekend the teams will compete in New Haven for who will qualify to represent the conference and will move onto the National Pop Warner Championships to be held in December at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports located at Disney World.
