The Fellowcraft Club of Annawon Lodge, #115 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of West Haven will be hosting the William Soderman Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Course, 37 Harrison Road, Wallingford.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the shotgun starts at 9.
The tournament is in honor of the late William A. Soderman, a World War II United States Army Veteran. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He used his bazooka to singlehandedly disable three German tanks and attacked an infantry platoon. Although seriously wounded, he survived the battle and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor eleven months later by President Harry S. Truman in November 1945.
Soderman was a lifelong resident of West Haven and a member of Annawon Lodge. He died in 1980 and is buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery. There is a monument at the base of the Bradley Point Flagpole.
This year’s tournament benefits House of Heroes, Connecticut. Established in 2000, House of Heroes is a nonprofit organization serving our nation’s military veterans who are disabled, living on fixed incomes or facing other physical challenges.
