West Haven has a rich sports history from high school to pro levels. One West Haven resident wanted to show his passion that is shared with many, along with highlighting West Haven’s history.
Troy Kreps created Rockefeller Sports as a marketed advertiser promotion for his card show based in West Haven. Kreps, who is the Event Organizer along with a vendor as well, got the Rockefeller name idea after growing up on Rockefeller Avenue.
Last month was the inaugural card show, which marked the first-ever of its kind to take place in West Haven. A packed Italian-American Club saw the residents of West Haven and its surrounding areas show up to take part in the hobby.
A $2 cash admission makes it affordable for any quantity of people going together. Once entered, you will see 20-30 vendor tables with smiling faces behind them ready to take any questions you may have or even help you if you are new to the hobby.
Kreps told the Voice that the main goal of the card show is to not only make it a family gathering, but more so create the “opportunity to know your fellow neighbors,” and the bringing of collectors together in one area.
The event is “built for collectors for anything,” said Kreps, who noted Pokemon and clothing vendors at the event as well, citing the overall event as a “great community of diverse people.” At the event you can find all types of sport cards from PSA graded slabs to highly sought after numbered cards across all different sports, along with vintage and new Pokémon and retro Air Jordan 5 sneakers.
The next West Haven Card Show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, and will take place at the Italian-American Club, 85 Chase Lane, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Future West Haven showings will take place on Nov. 15 and Dec. 20.
Thank you so much for the feature! We greatly appreciate it and look forward to seeing you all at our next event this Saturday!
