The West Haven High School Children’s Theater will present, “Once Upon a Crime,” a comedy by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus. The performances will take place on Saturday, May 12, at 10 and 11:30 in the Little Theater at WHHS. Tickets for children 12 and under are free. All others are asked to donate $5. Children are asked to bring a pillow or blanket to sit upon to enjoy the show. The Supreme Court of Fairytale Land has Goldilocks on trial for her life! She is being charged with breaking and entering the home of the Three Bears! SHe is also charged with eating their food, breaking a chair and sleeping in their beds! Is she innocent or guilty? The audience will decide.

Morse Park saw the latest opening of West Haven Little League Saturday morning. Hundreds of players, parents and friends attended the first weekend of play in a league that began in 1951.

West Haven Little League opened its new season at Morse Park over the weekend, and from the looks of this fellow, the form and the mechanics were all in place.
Intent on Dean
WHHS senior Matt Dowd recently signed his letter of intent to play lacrosse next year at Dean College in Massachusetts. Matt is a four-year member and captain of this year’s lacrosse team. Next to Matt is head coach Pat Reed and standing are Matt’s parents Tim and Ann Dowd.
High School Happenings
The WHHS Science Olympiad team participated in the state competition at UConn on Saturday, April 7. The competition consisted of 23 events covering a wide range of topics in science and engineering. This was West Haven’s third year participating in the state competition, where they were one of 44 public and private high school teams competing. Each year the West Haven team has improved its performance, with this year being its most successful year yet. Team members Winnie Jiang and Victoria Vannarath earned a fifth place finish in Write it Do It, a timed event requiring one partner to follow detailed building instructions written by the other partner. The team was also pleased with their sixteenth place finish in Experimental Design, where Awaab Osman, Winnie Jiang, and Rua Osman had fifty minutes to design, conduct, and report on an experiment. Other team members, Sumedha Chowdhury, Brian Garzon, Hayat Khan, Dehil Dharani, and Lucien Zheng, also did well in their events. The nine students were accompanied by their coaches, Mrs. Musante and Mrs. Hartsoe, as well as science department head Kevin Dickson.

WHHS Tech Ed students visited Housatonic Community College this past week to tour their Manufacturing training facility. Among other post secondary training programs avaliable, HCC provides training for lucrative careers in the ever growing field of manufacturing. Jenn Hernandez and Winnie Jiang won awards at a debate competition on 4/27 at Yale University. The three debate topics were: Do the benefits of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) outweigh the harms? Should U.S. citizens be legally required to get vaccines? Should people colonize other planets?

On Wednesday, May 16, at 7 p.m., the West Haven High School Choral Department will proudly present “Music of the Stage and Screen” in the high school auditorium with a tribute to Lou Negri. The newly formed Lou Negri Alumni choir will be joining members of Chorus, Camerata, and Bel Canto to pay tribute to their beloved teacher. Negri taught in the West Haven School district from 1963-
2002.
