Sand and surf relief
The sand the surf was a big drawing card over the last week as sweltering temperatures enveloped much of the nation, and all of New England. The heatwave saw temperatures top out over 90 with heat-index numbers well over 100. Heat advisories have been the norm over the last few days, and there doesn’t seem to be any relief in the next few days. This was taken by Voice Columnist Dan Shine toward the beach area near Tyler Street.

Quotable quotes
Friends of the West Haven Public Library kicked off a Sidewalk Chalk Project at the Main Library, 300 Elm St, on July 15. Originally intended for when the library opened back up on July 1, some pesky rain was in the forecast. The first phase of the project is at the front entrance and includes inspirational quotes. It will soon wrap about the Campbell Avenue side.

Picking up
Young laborers from the West Haven Summer Youth Employment Program were out on Beach Street Tuesday morning picking up debris all the way to the Sandy Point parking area. The action was captured by resident Ginny Barrett . The team went up Second Avenue as well, which has seen in increase in traffic and debris because of storm drain reconstruction on Beach Street. Each summer the city hires young people to help keep the city cleaner, and, despite the heat, these teens worked hard.
