Chiquita Queen opens
Louis P. Esposito Jr., executive assistant to Mayor Nancy R. Rossi, cuts the ribbon Friday with Chiquita Queen owner Martha Lojano, accompanied by her son Kenny Buestan, to mark the ceremonial opening of the new Ecuadorian and Mexican restaurant at 215 Sawmill Road, formerly West Haven Pizza Palace. Joining the celebration are, from left, chef Raphael Rodriguez-Moran; state Rep. Michael A. DiMassa, D-West Haven; city Tax Collector Dorothy Chambrelli; city Planning and Development Commissioner Fred A. Messore; state Rep. Dorinda Borer, D-West Haven; Lojano’s sons Carlos and Joey Buestan; and mayoral adviser Tom McCarthy, with his son, Tom. In recognition of the special occasion, Borer presented Lojano with a General Assembly citation on behalf of the city’s delegation.
UNH sponsors Rotary Auction
The University of New Haven is once again a sponsor of the West Haven Rotary Club’s 30th Annual Auction which takes place on April 28. Local accepts honor
Benchmark Senior living had its annual awards banquet in Boston, and honored Edgehill in Stamford with its “Ripple” Award, for recognizing the “ripple effect” of excellent leadership and meaningful human connection, the community was hailed for its high associate loyalty scores, low turnover rates, and highest retention rates in the company. The award was accepted by Executive Director Chris Barstein of West Haven. Those with him were unidentified.
The regular season of the West Haven Youth Soccer League spring opened up last week, taking advantage of the short spate of good weather we had. Teams played on the several pitches at Peterson Field, with skills and competition at the forefront. Click title for story.
Former West Haven native and Notre Dame two-sport athlete Steve Simoes, Class of 81, brought his Hopkinton, Mass baseball team to his former “home” at Quigley Stadium to play his alma mater. Notre Dame won 12-2 on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Simoes is pictured with Notre Dame Athletic Director and his baseball coach Tom Marcucci and current Green Knights head coach Don Martone following the game.
