Lovers' Lane 1913
This 1913 postcard of Savin Rock, shows the area known as “Lovers’ Lane.” Secluded by trees, and seeming to wind along the contours of Long Island Sound, the spot was a favorite walking spot for couples and those who rested along our shoreline a century ago.
95 years young
Millicent Huff Corbett, West Haven’s first elected Black City Councilor celebrated her 95th birthday with a backyard gala at her home in the fifth district. Corbett, who was elected to represent the fifth district on the West Haven City Council in 1989 is also the first female motorcycle traffic police officer in the City of New Haven. As the owner of the former CBC Construction Company, she was the first black owner to receive a demolition license from the State of Connecticut. Celebrating with Corbett (sitting) are former New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, State Representative Trenee’ McGee and Steven R. Mullins.

April student recognition
St. Lawrence School hosted a breakfast was held on April 17 to recognize those 1st- through 8th- graders selected for Student Recognition in the month of April. Students are selected based upon criteria such as achievements in school, respect for others, behavior and more. Family members were on hand to celebrate the accomplishments of their children. Sixth grade teacher, James Rulan, presented the awards to students. The ribbon-cutting was also attended by Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce President Michael Moses, Director of Membership and Marketing Simon McDonald and event coordinator Wendy Terenzio, along with chamber members Peggi Vetro of the Irish Heritage Society of Milford and Patriot Bank of Milford Vice President Robert Creigh. Christine’s Creations is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
Ye Old Spirits opens on Main St.

The historic package store site, remodeled by Conti and located four blocks from downtown, is the former longtime home of Ye Old Liquor Shoppe, in addition to other establishments through the years. Ye Old Spirits is open from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
Grand Lodge honoree
Annawon Lodge, 115, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of West Haven Past Worshipful Master Steven R. Mullins was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation recently by the 4th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut; for going above and beyond the call of Masonic duties. Mullins, who served as Lodge Master in 2018 is currently the Annawon Almoner. Scholarship donation
The West Haven Veterans Council visited West Haven High School recently to make a donation to the scholarship fund. The group’s representatives handed Principal Dana Paredes a check for $2,000 for senior scholarships. The Vietnam Vets on hand for the presentation were: Dave Ricci (Veterans Council President), Steve Carney, Mark Levine, Rich Foley, and Howie Thomas.
