On Friday, March 25 West Haven High School alum Dr. Kirsten Tulchin-Francis, Class of 1994, made a presentation to juniors and seniors in WHHS biomedical courses via Zoom, on one of the school’s new Promethean boards. Dr. Tulchin-Francis works at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio as Director of the Honda Center for Gait Analysis and Mobility Enhancement, and the Director of Orthopedic Research. After graduating from West Haven High School in 1994, she attended Trinity College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. She then went on to earn a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University, and a Ph.D. in Biomechanics from Texas Women’s University. Dr. Tulchin-Francis spoke to juniors in the Medical Interventions class about prosthetic design before speaking to seniors in the Biomedical Innovations class about her journey from WHHS to where she is now.

Demo ends ELL term
A group of 24 English Language Learning (ELL) students at Savin Rock recently completed an after-school program where teachers provided support to help them complete their daily homework. The students also worked on an extracurricular activity provided by the Family Resource Center, where they learned about Savin Rock history and did arts and crafts with rocks. To wrap it up, they brought in a guest speaker, Jose Carballo, Ph.D. (left), who brought a wealth of knowledge in robotics from his experiences as a Mechatronics Engineer in Wilton.
