Valentine traditions renewedMoses and Roberta Douglas, the West Haven Senior Center’s longest-married couple, hold up a citation they received from Mayor Dorinda Borer during the city’s “Share the Love Luncheon” at the West Haven Italian American Club on Feb. 12. At the two-hour celebration, presented by the Department of Elderly Services, Borer honored the Douglases, who have been married for 70 years, and 25 other senior center couples who have been married for at least 50 years. -

Chairs SCRCOGMayor Dorinda Borer has been elected as the new chairman of the South Central Regional Council of Governments. Borer was officially nominated for the leadership post by North Haven First Selectman Michael J. Freda and Guilford First Selectman Matthew Hoey, receiving unanimous support from the 15 regional mayors and first selectmen of the municipalities in the Greater New Haven region. Borer, who recently began her second term as West Haven’s mayor, brings extensive regional experience to the role. She previously served as the chair of SCRCOG’s Executive Committee and was a dedicated member of its Transportation Committee. -

The $8,000 donation was made possible by the proceeds of discounted tickets from the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s sold out Holiday Extravaganza concert, which was presented by Borer’s arts initiative in the West Haven High School auditorium Dec. 19. -

Two teams, the Tiny Mite, and the Mitey Mite squads were crowned National Champions. The competition is part of Pop Warner football, a national program to develop athletes in both gridiron competition, and for those who desire the expertise associated with cheerleading. -
