Cancer scholarship gets boostFrom left, Mayor Dorinda Borer joins Doug “the Rake” Ruickoldt to present a $14,000 check on behalf of the West Haven Breast Cancer Awareness Program to West Haven High School Principal Dana Paredes on Jan. 29 to benefit the Susan A. Ruickoldt Scholarship Fund as program committee Chairwoman Beth A. Sabo looks on. The donation was made possible by the annual Dubel’s Golf Tournament, Westies Nutrition and the West Haven Youth Soccer League and will support the scholarship fund for the next 21 years, Sabo said.

Lodge to honor Barr 80thAnnawon Lodge, 115 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of West Haven will host an 80th birthday celebration for Past Master Willam K. Barr, commonly and affectionately known as ‘Railroad Bill’ in numerous West Haven circles. The pasta dinner will be held at the Lodge, 263 Center Street, West Haven on Sunday, February 18th at 3:00pm. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Raffle prizes will be available. Checks can be made out to the AF & AM of CT Master’s Fund. Barr, a past President of the West Haven Rotary Club is recovering well at a Milford convalescent facility after being stricken some weeks ago.
