William and Dorothy McCarthy are happy to celebrate their 70th Wedding Anniversary on January 14. They were married in 1950 at St. Paul’s Church.
Sammy's Day
The West Haven and East Haven captains with Sammy Hotchkiss (center right) before Saturday’s game. The teams honored Hotchkiss before the contest, and the youngster was given the honor of dropping the ceremonial first puck. The lifelong hockey fan has cerebral palsey serves as manager for the Blue Devils’ club. He was awarded an “A” on his jersey, signifying him as an assistant capatain.
Rossi lists goals for the new year
Two priorities for Mayor Nancy Rossi in 2020 are getting the Savin Rock Conference Center producing revenue again. Last year, new curbing was put in to help make the building more presentable. It is hoped a managing company can come in and make the venue a place for celebrations. Meanwhile (left) the Haven has been a source of “frustration” for the administration and city residents. First announced in 2014, demolition of the site has yet to take place almost two years after the final properties were allocated.

5th benefit
Proceeds from the 5th Annual Kevin Conniff Christmas Classic Hockey game held on Dec. 24 were donated to Gabby Murillo’s Road to Recovery to help the Murillo Family purchase a special van. Gabby attended the game with her Mom, Amanda Murillo and her sister Jennifer, and posed for a picture with the two teams, comprised of former area high school players from Notre Dame Fairfield, West Haven High, Notre Dame West Haven, Amity High, Guilford High, and Fairfield Prep. The game is organized by former NDF player and West Haven resident Kevin Conniff. Previous years proceeds have been donated to the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and Alzheimer’s patient care.
Player of the week
Taylor Nowak (11) is the Vio’s Sports Plus/Westie Blue Player of the Week. The senior scored nine goals and added two assists in three games as the Westies opened the season with a 7-0 record.
